    A Quill Quickie

"What are the top three TV shows you never miss?"

    Jayne:

    1) Monk
    2) Food Channel
    3) Food Channel

    Suzanne:

    1) Stargate SG-1 (My all-time favorite TV show.)
    2) Any documentary on ancient Egypt, the brain, or outer space (no pun intended.)
    3) The Weather Channel (Despite the fact we get 3000 channels, sometimes it's the best thing on. And, hey, we do live in "Tornado Alley.")

Man on the Street (aka Suzanne's husband)

    1) Stargate SG-1 (Because Sue told me I was going to watch it with her.)
    2) 24 (Just picked it up this year in Season . . . er, Day Five)
    3) Sports (Nuff said!)

Inquiring Minds want to know as we start a new week: What are the three TV shows at the top of your viewing list?

Very cool, a Stargate SG-1 Fan. I still watch in now even though I am in continuous mourning over losing Col. O'Neill (2 L's) this season.

    Okay, so I'd answer:

    Stargate SG-1
    Criminal Minds
    Gilmore Girls

And add one that's not on right now; Dancing with the Stars.

I don't think there has ever been a TV series that I have been so hooked upon that I worried much about missing it.

I tend to watch the News pretty regularly, but I don't fret if I miss it - there are always newspapers and the radio.
I usually watch Time Team (archaeological series), even though it drives me mad at times.
Otherwise, occasional documentaries on natural history, history, archaeology, geography and related topics.

The three shows that I won't miss:

    1) CSI:Crime Scene Investigation (The Original Series)
    2) Bones
    3) American Idol (shush!) lol

When I have time I also like House (recently turned onto that show by my son...lol), travel shows and anything on any channel that pertains to history (celts, egyptians, romans, civil war, WWII, Vietnam, etc.) especially the History Channel/History Channel International.

Thanks be to the inventor of TiVo!

    1) Cash in the Attic (British Version)
    2) CSI (Las Vegas)
    3) Antiques Roadshow

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Rachel Ray and Giada's Show Cooking Show and Mission Organization.

I used to like CSI (original) until the season closer last year, the one directed by Quinton Tarantino. It was SICK! The thing I liked about it was the glimpse into science and the investigation process. So now my top 3 are
    1. Monk
    2. Iron Chef America
    3. Sensible Chic

I watch the food and decorating channels regularly. I also like History and Discovery channels and occasionally we watch a movie.

    Top 3:

    1. Dr Who - just moved to top (new ones)
    2. Judge Judy
    3. Smallville

I enjoy Monk but I'm always forgetting to watch it!

    DH's:

    1. Dr Who
    2. CSI
    3. Law and Order - Criminal Intent

We used to watch SG-1, but miss Col O'Neill! Does anyone know what happened to him?

I think the new DR. WHO is dreadful and have already given up on it!

I'm not going to mention my guilty pleasures, even though someone above has already confessed to JUDGE JUDY.

    CRIMINAL MINDS
    LAW AND ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT
CLOSE TO HOME tied with MEDIUM (which is somewhat ironic, since I lived just outside Indianapolis (setting of the first one) until I moved to the Phoenix area (setting of the second one).

I am really ticked off that the other two LAW & ORDER shows have been moved opposite two of my favorites: CRIMINAL MINDS and BOSTON LEGAL. I really love BL but have been skipping it mostly with plans to watch the reruns, but I'm now watching it regularly as a way of expressing my dislike for the schedule change.

They got the clue at NBC (an 18% ratings drop) and move the original L&O back to 10 starting this week.

Taking out the L&Os, the CSIs, the Fox Sunday night cartoon lineup and a moment of silence for Arrested Development, I have:

    1) House Long live the House/Wilson slashy goodness
    2) Scrubs Long live the Coxy snarkaliciousness (is too a word)
    3) Criminal Minds Between Garcia's brilliance and Dr. Reid's quirkiness, I'm hooked

I also like Crossing Jordan, Big Love and Charmed but I tend to tape those to watch later (as opposed the whole lot above which I tape to watch over and over because all the reruns on TNT, Spike and USA are just NOT enough!)

    5:29 PM
    Blogger Alphabeter said...

Evie RDA wanted to leave so they changed his character. I think they're going to kill him. I think Stargate has gone down hill since they brought back Daniel (whom I think is a great character).

I forgot Monk, The Closer and My Name is Earl. I don't like the Scientology connections to 'Earl' but its still a funny show. One of the few comedies I can stand.

I watch Boston Legal too because unlike Desperate Housewives, it got better in its second season. However, I tape it to watch later so I can get the commercials out of LOSVU (because I keep those tapes).

Yes, I'm a junkie. I have whole sets of tv shows--Murder She Wrote, Quantum Leap, Magnum PI ... all the way back from when we first got a VCR in 1981. I have boxes of tapes all over my basement (in good condition).
My parents liked shows so they (and my grandmother) would tape them and watch them when they wanted so it wouldn't interfere with family outings, school events, and the other. I think we were the original TiVo family before there was TiVo!

    But I digress...

I'm not much of a TV person, so I define favourite shows by whether I actually make the effort to remember the time and date in order to watch them.

    Those would be:

    CSI - the original
    Ghost Whisperer
    Little Britain
Spics & Specks (panel type show)

Used to watch House, but it got too drama-queen when the rich guy bought in and started messing it about.

    1) HOUSE, long live HOUSE!
    2) The Evidence (new show, my DH is hooked)
    3) CSI Miami.
Have to mention that all the Law and Order series were a close fight for 4th!

    1. Crossing Jordan is the top one...
    2. ER
    3. Reruns of FRIENDS even though I own the whole series
    4. Reruns of MASH

    Blogger talpianna said...

I don't see why HOUSE is so popular: I'd hate to be a patient of his, because they always try fifteen different wrong treatments before they get it right! I much preferred Ben Casey, Marcus Welby, and the doctors at CHICAGO HOPE and whatever the other one was opposite--was that the early ER?

CHICAGO HOPE--remember when Mandy Pantinkin had decent hair?

One of the things that put me off ER, despite the gorgeousness of Goran, was when they broke up what started out as a perfectly sound marriage. I really hate it when they do that! One reason I like CLOSE TO HOME and MEDIUM is that both heroines have supportive and loyal husbands and stable relationships. (Although Alison did have a rocky bit when she had one of her precognitive dreams showing her husband embracing a beautiful woman--but it turned out he was just applying the Heimlich maneuver!). Both Curtis on L&O and Eliot on SVU had their marriages break up, for what seemed to me no good reason.

SVU is my least favorite of the three, because I find the sex crimes distressing, especially when the victims are children. I wonder if there's some deep Freudian reason I always try to spell it SUV--perhaps I'd secretly rather be watching a show in which forest rangers go four-wheeling around Yellowstone in search of poachers, bears, and killer squirrels...

    3. American Idol. This is the first time I've watched AI, and its only because I've met Mandissa (she sings with a friend of mine who leads worship at church) and know what a lovely lady she is... so I'm lending my support.

    Stargate SG-1/Atlantis (I enjoy Sci-Fi a lot.)
British Shows (mysteries, dramas, comedies, I have always been a bit of an anglophile.)
    History/Discovery Channel/PBS programing

The above are my favorite things to watch.
Yes, SG-1 has gone downhill a bit since Jack is gone and Daniel has changed so much since his return. Sam should get some more time. Also would love to see Christopher Judge write some more shows.
I am giving Dr. Who a chance. I started watching Dr. Who way back in the early 70s when it came on a channel that was difficult for us to get so the picture was all grainy and difficult to see. Always liked Tom Baker the best. Met Jon Pertwee at a Who exhibit. He gave a lovely talk and was very missed. So although I was disappointed with the first two episodes, I will give myself to adjust to the modern Dr.
    I do like Monk too.
I must admit, though, that I don't worry too much about missing any show as a) we have TiVo, which I love, b) I do most of my watching while cooking dinner in the evening because I read during Prime Time, and c) it will all be out in DVD sooner or later.

    Only 3? I've got like 5

    1. Stargate SG-1 (as for O'Neill - after he made Brigadier General and ran things at SGC for awhile he retired I think it was season 8)
    2. Stargate Atlantis
    3. John Doe
    4. NCIS
    5. Bones

I don't really have favorites. We have a rule at my house that keeps the TV off when the Critter (aka Draeden age 19 mo) is awake.

We got rid of the Food Channel, the History Channel and the 24 hour news channels several months ago. Those were my usual staples along with occasional CSPAN obsessions.

If I had to pick 3 that I will actually sit through...

Veronica Mars (aka 21st Century Nancy Drew)
House (sarcastic, twisted, and oh so entertaining)

    Wow, a 3rd is difficult.
I've watched Bones a few times recently but the whole "Jeffersonian" for "Smithsonian" and anthropologist with a gun is just a bit much for me. Gray's Anatomy can hold my interest but I won't die if I miss it.

    1) Stargate SG-1
2)NCIS (if you haven't watched this, give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised)
3)CSI (Miami is my fav., but I watch all 3 given enough time.)

Sometimes I tune in for "Lost or Survivor. Oh and I TiVo Paula Dean. Jayne you know who that is. I am from the South, and I'm like Paula, "Just a touch of butta"

    5. All of the Animal Cops shows Animal Planet

I know, I cheated and listed five, but that's really ALL I watch on TV.

    Donna,

RE: Stargate SG-1. I, too, got the impression that Carter may be involved with O'Neill off-camera this season! It was an almost throw-away comment on one show.

I don't think we'll see RDA back on the show except for the very occasional cameo. He took himself off as lead actor and executive producer to spend more time with his eight-year-old daughter.

But I've always liked Ben Browder since "Farscape" days, so he's about as good as it gets to "replace" RDA.

    Blogger Kay said...

My three (or four) shows are:

    1) Stargate-SG1
(Ghost Whisperer when SG1 is a re-run or is not on)
    2) NCIS (I miss JAG.)
    3) Law & Order: Criminal Intent
    4) TLC: What Not to Wear

My 29-year-old son and I are both Stargate fans. Gen. Jack O'Neill was promoted to Head of Homeworld Security. Since they are no longer serving in the same command, he and Carter may fraternize without penalty (I think). From what I read on Gateworld, a nifty fan site, RDA will be back for cameos. I still enjoy the series for the creativity of the plots, the dialogue, and the interactions among the characters. Beau Bridges, Ben Browder, Alexa Doig, and Claudia Black are welcome additions.
Did anyone else see the MasterCard Debit card TV commercial with RDA reprising his MacGyver character?

    Law and Order--the original
That 70's Show (the reruns on F/X)

I have too many books waiting to be read to waste time in front of the TV when I could be reading. I can get news and weather from the Internet. When I am at my sister's house where the TV is always on, I watch HGTV and the Food Network.
