STELLA HAS A THOUGHT

Control yourselves--no, this isn't the first thought I've had, I'm sure there was another one once.

This is my fifth day at sea (again, no snide comments, please) on the way to Lisbon from Barbados. Ocean-gazing is such lovely stuff and allows the brain to be almost completely still for long periods. The trick is to spot the point when one's brain might forget how to move again. If this happens--so I understand--the prognosis isn't good.

But I had a thought while I was ocean-watching. Are you ready?

Who thinks Tom Hanks will make the perfect lead in "The DaVinci Code," the movie? Who doesn't think Tom is the man for the job? Do you have suggestions for the part?

Wow, that's actually three thoughts.

Cheers,
Stella

Actually, I thought Tom to be a little too old looking through the face for the role. He just doesn't strike me as suave and sophisticated person for the role. Now, Pierce Brosnan (same age group) would be just perfect for the role. And he is as good an actor as Tom IMHO.

BTW,Stella, how did you get so lucky to be on this cruise? Did you twist Dear Hubby's arm, or was it his suggestion (with hints from you)? Or is this a working cruise, like the authorsatsea cruise? Man, I would love to be on one right now. LOL

Just think Tom is too old for the role. Not sure who I would pick but the age group would have been a tad younger.

Enjoy your cruise.

That is one actor I WOULD NOT WANT IN THE ROLE>>>>Tom Cruise. He has gotten to whacked for words.

I also didn't think Tom Hanks would be right for the part when I first heard he was to be the lead. He just didn't seem the professorly guy described in the book, although I didn't think him too old. Not sure who it should have been, but I agree . . . NOT Tom Cruise! He is out of this world. Not Pierce Brosnan, much as I like him. He is too sophisticated, too hunky. Gregory Peck would have been a good choice if he was alive and at the right age.

However, I am reserving my judgement on Tom Hanks till I see the movie. He is a very versatile actor. Maybe he can pull it off.

All in favor of Stella being abducted by a handsome pirate (an Earl in disguise, of course!), say "Aye!"

I'd say "Aye" but I think that mebbe her hubby could just dress up...lol

I think Tom Hanks will do well in the role... he usually does, no matter the script. For this specific character, through, my personal suggestion would be Nicolas Cage.

Matthew McConaughey is hot but probably not right for the part...lol... and Ed Harris (another favorite) probably would be "too old".

My hubby is putting in his two pennies and said he'd have love to have seen the script run-throughs for: Russell Crowe, Benjamin Bratt, Jude Law and Nicolas Cage as they all seem "age appropriate".

...and Stella, ocean-gazing was my very favorite thing to do when we took our first cruise last year. I never realized how dark blue the ocean really looked "way out there". Of course the food came in a close second...lol lol

Happy Cruisin'!

It's odd that you should ask just now. I'm sort of rereading, TDVC, the illustrated version, and was trying to imagine Tom Hanks in that role. Now that I am rereading it, I find that Langdon's not the real take-charge guy I remembered. Often Sophie is the one who does the thinking and acting. I haven't seen enough of Tom Hanks to really make a conclusive evaluation of his acting skills. But I can sort of see him as Langdon. All the other actors I can think of right now would come across as too macho.

So maybe it is a good choice. Right now, they're just trying to find out where the "Priory" key fits. I'm not even half-way through. Of course I can't resist rereading parts of the texts as I'm looking at all those beautiful Paris pictures trying to remember this or that sight. I wish they had included a better map of Paris or at least let us enlarge it at our leisure(gg). I lent mine to a friend over 40 years ago and never got it back, sniff.

I can just imagine you on the ship. I rememer crossing from Rotterdam to New York. My roommate and I were the only ones outside because we crossed the North Atlantic and it.was.cold. One day we had a record 14 blankets covering us while NYC supposedly had temps in the 90s. We couldn't believe it. Well, we sure found out fast once we landed. Talk about heat coming up from the sidewalks. Uhh.

Lisbon should be nice. I've never been there but my parents and my sister and her husband have and loved it and all the parts of Portugal they saw. Enjoy your trip, Stella.

I never really saw Tom Hanks playing Langdon's part. When I read the book, the person in my head was Harrison Ford. But then "Indiana Jones" must have something to do with it...

I think that Tom Hanks is so versatile (as someone said before me) that he may just surprise us. And I do like the idea of Harrison Ford. As for Tom Cruise - forget it! Agree - he's way too whacked. I don't want to see him in movies any longer - he's too far out there.

You know, I was picturing something closer to Harrison Ford too. I hadn't thought of the Indiana Jones reasoning though.euz

I think Harrison Ford would be perfect for the lead, however, he's a little long in the tooth right now. Russell Crowe would be my second choice because I think he's fabulous actor. As for Tom Cruise-NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have I told 'ya how weird I think Tom Cruise?

I think we're all stereotyping, Tom Hanks isn't right though! Perhaps a tall, brown haired, scholarly looking man of about 25-32 years young, with slight accent!!!!!!! Hugh Jackman- maybe!

My first thought was TH would be the perfect choice, especially with the long hair. I've always liked him as a persona and his characters. Maybe I'm biased.

At first, I did not think Tom Hanks was a good choice.

I thought David Ducovny (who played Mulder in X-Files) would be the perfect intellectual-crime solver type.

After seeing the trailer, I guess Tom Hanks was a good choice.

Oooo, David Ducovny. Didn't think of him, but yeah!
