Welcome to Running With Quills, your online newsletter designed to keep you up to date with what your favorite authors (that would be us) are doing throughout the year. Here you will find the release dates of our new books and get information about our backlists. We'll preview our cover art here long before the books hit the stores and we'll keep you informed about works-in-progress and special projects. You'll also receive advance notice of signings and appearances. From time to time we'll give you a peek at our worlds, tell you what we're reading, and introduce you to some new authors.

WELCOME KATHERINE STONE AND HER WRITING PARTNER...WENDY!

Greetings! And how lovely to be a guest on this fabulous blog run by these amazing authors (and -- more importantly -- wonderful human beings.)

It's honest, informative and fun. What could be better than that?

I'm intrigued by the Quill Quickies (who knew Jayne's favorite TV shows were Monk and Food Channel?), am tempted by every delicious recipe, love the comments from visitors, and, as a writer, appreciate the sharing of experiences.

Lori's "Writer's Family Life" resonated big time (of course!)

My dear friend Stella, who so graciously invited me to do this, said -- in response to my "I'd love to! But what would I say?" -- that it was fine to do a what-am-I-up-to report.

So, here goes...

I'm in that heady, hopeful place where the new book (Caroline's Journal) is out of my hands. I've given it my all, and, even as I type, it's at the printer in anticipation of hitting the bookshelves in August.

I'm not even thinking (ha!) of all the potential glitches (out-of-order pages, upside down or wrong covers, etc, etc.)

I've learned in publishing (as in life), you do your best, control what little you can, and surrender as cheerfully as possible to what you can't.

Of course, learning that philosophy and living it -- cheerfully! -- aren't always the same .

Which is where Wendy, my cocker spaniel, comes in. Those of you who've visited my website know her well. She has no worries, and is relentless in her determination to share her tail-wagging joy.

With Wendy's help, I'm happily clearing the clutter that accumulated while I was immersed in the book (though, arguably, since the Christmas decorations would be coming out in four months or so, should I really even bother putting them away now? )

I'm a multitasker from way back -- as we all are -- except when I'm writing.

I'm emotionally multitasking then, I guess, throwing obstacles in my characters' paths, figuring out how I'm going to get them out of the dilemmas I've created, and worrying around the clock about their issues (and clutter)...to the exclusion of my own.

Don't even talk to me about dieting whilst I'm writing!
Or while I'm in this heady, hopeful book-at-printer time.

Or if it's Monday, or Tuesday, or I'm wishing everyone who's reading this blog the happiest of summers ...which I am!

and joy to your and yours,

Katherine and Wendy

PS. My favorite TV shows:
1. The entire Law and Order franchise (especially SVU). (And, not surprisingly, before Law and Order, it was Columbo and Murder She Wrote.)
2. Many Lifetime network movies.
3. I got totally hooked on American Idol this season. (Once they were down to the final 12.) I was a Chris & Elliot devotee. I may watch So You Think You Can Dance at the final grouping stage. I have no interest in watching people's dreams get dashed -- but figure everyone in the final 12 has a very good shot at dreams coming true whether or not they win.

Hi, Katherine and Wendy. Ooh, you want to live with Auntie Stella, Wendy. Wait till your mom isn't looking and go wait by the gate--I'll be waiting.

CAROLINE'S JOURNAL sounds like my kind of book. Your stories always make me think, laugh and sometimes tear up a bit. I've heard enough readers say similar things to know my reactions are appropriate.

Glad you could come. It's great to have you share some space with us. Welcome!

Stella

Welcome, Katherine. As a fellow LAW & ORDER fan, I also recommend CRIMINAL MINDS and CLOSE TO HOME (even if the latter did a Bad, Bad Thing in the finale).

And don't forget to play the Verification Game if you post here--make a sentence with the letters:

vyrnaesg -- Very young romance novelists are eagerly scanning gnews.

Welcome to both of you, Katherine and Wendy... it's nice to meet you both!

Criminial Minds is a good show but I'm a bigger fan of CSI (the original) and Bones (after Kathy Reichs series) as well as House. Who knew Hugh Laurie was so sexy?

Welcome again, Katherine (and Wendy!)

Deb (and Juno)

fozsbl: Frankly, occasional zaniness brings laughter.

Hey Kathrine, just put a nice red, white, and blue table cloth over the Christmas decoration boxes. That way they are festive throughout the summer holiday's (Memorial Day, July 4th, and even Labor Day) and you have no worries. Heck, my dad left our Christmas tree up through April one year, my mom just closed the curtains and let the neighbors wonder.

Agree with the Criminal Minds crowd, guiltily enjoy Dancing with the Stars, am late to the party for Gilmour Girls, love the many house selling/renovation/space cheering shows on HGTV and TLC, and really like the food tv challenge shows.

Thanks for the post.

Stella! I love the blog. Thank you!
And thanks, too, for the posts so far. Yes, indeed, I'm a fan of all the other mentioned shows, too. Hugh Laurie. Who knew? Those blue, blue eyes.

I'm off to Las Vegas (and off-line) for the weekend. Will check back in on Monday.

Happy weekend to all. And thank you again.

Katherine (& Wendy, who will be at home...but off-line, too.)

Will be working on my verification phrase elzzowvs (help is welcome!)

Welcome, Katherine, from all the Quills!

I'm in Las Vegas myself. Well, mentally. For the past few months I've been writing a book set in Vegas.:-)

Have a great weekend!

Is that Wendy slurping at my screen? She can come and do it from this side, too. Hasn't been washed in ages but then, I guess, it doesn't really get dirty. The only thing that normally touches it is my nose when I'm having trouble seeing. (g)

Actually, it doesn't even usually go that far but I'll be going in for new glasses on Wed. I guess it's about time again. I can't even read my own writing. I definitely need a magnifying glass around here. It kept falling on me and now I don't know where it is.

Anyway, Katherine, it was great to get an insight into what you're doing right now and congratulations on the finished book. I hear that all sorts of strange things can happen at the printer's. One writer told us that she did extensive revisions on her one book making it a lot better. When it came out in print, it was the one she had gotten back from her editor the first time and neither the language, spelling errors or the plot had been corrected. I guess that can be quite a blow.

I guess things *can* happen but don't do so on a regular basis. So I'm sure your book will be fine.

Actually, it seems that all the blogging was "off" last week as well as a lot of yahoo groups as I heard. Was there a "bug" going around? I hope everything will be normal again this week. I was beginning to think that everyone was off on holiday except moi.

Home from Vegas. It was hot, intriguing -- I'm a people watcher from way back -- and fun. I love Las Vegas (I figure you either love it or hate it), but a few days in never land is plenty, and it's nice to home to the wiggly little one.

I spend quite a bit of time with my word verification letters. ELZZOWVS. Here's the best I could do, in keeping with the writer theme.

Eliminating Long-winded ZZ-inducing Observations {{like this!}} Won't Vanquish Sales. (au contraire!}

Thanks to everyone for their comments, and happy summer to all!

Katherine
