Frank and I celebrated the 4th by walking up to Seattle Center (along with a whole bunch of other Seattleites) and watched 500 people from about a hundred different countries -- Australia to Vietnam and everything in between -- take the oath that transformed them into U.S. Citizens.

We listened to some speeches, sang God Bless America and then we all welcomed the newly minted citizens with a lot of cheering and applause.

When it was over, there wasn't a dry eye around.

Thank you to all of our armed services... veterans and current alike...

It's because of all of you that we have an Independence Day to celebrate.

Jayne reminds me of a July 4 when I became an American citizen at the Flag Plaza at Seattle Center:) I shall always remember and be grateful for that day.

Some years later our adopted daughter from Korea was sworn in as a citizen--on another July 4.

    Wonderful memories, Stella

I can hear fireworks going off in the distance as I sit here in my office. (We can't see them because we live on a wooded lot.) But I'm about to join my husband for a glass of wine and some Boston Pops music and fireworks.

    Happy 4th one and all!

What a great day to be sworn in!

I spent the day working (don't ask!) and helped people find newspapers online...in Russian. And French. I helped people find information on global warming.... and Ann Coulter books. It just reminded me of what a great country we live in where so many different ideas and opinions can be written about freely and read about freely without fear of, well, anything.

    Happy 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July from a VERY remote collateral descendent of one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams--and danged proud of it!

On July 4 I watched some of our troops in Iraq be sworn in as citizens. (Apparently folks with a green card can enlist in our armed services and are offered a chance for citizenship.) It was a touching ceremony and afterwards the folks who were interviewed expressed their joy that they now belong to the country they are serving. Brought tears to my eyes. A reminder to appreciate this great country!
