Welcome to Running With Quills, your online newsletter designed to keep you up to date with what your favorite authors (that would be us) are doing throughout the year. Here you will find the release dates of our new books and get information about our backlists. We'll preview our cover art here long before the books hit the stores and we'll keep you informed about works-in-progress and special projects. You'll also receive advance notice of signings and appearances. From time to time we'll give you a peek at our worlds, tell you what we're reading, and introduce you to some new authors.

Jayne Suggests the Perfect Road Trip

If you're looking for a good excuse for a summertime road trip, have I got a suggestion for you!

Call some friends, pack some road food and head for Atlanta, GA, on Wednesday, July 26. That evening hundreds of your favorite romance, romantic-suspense and women's fiction authors will be gathered together in a giant ballroom at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in a massive book signing event.

Yes, you can bring some books from your home collection to be signed, although the officials ask that you limit that number to five. This is a fundraiser for literacy, after all and the idea is to raise some funds!

The annual "Readers for Life: Literacy Autographing" is a regular feature of the Romance Writers of America summer convention. Trust me, it is a Really Big Deal. There will be well over four hundred authors present that evening, including most of the Big Names -- not to mention a bunch of Quills and that rowdy gang from Squawk Radio.

Think about it: you may never have another opportunity to see a lot of Quills and Squawkers at one time when we're all dressed up, legs waxed (okay, maybe shaved) and acting genteel. There will be no, I repeat no, green ghost margaritas served until after the signing event is concluded. (The officials made us promise on a stack of ARCs. That's what officials do, you see, they spoil all the fun).

The really cool part is that the publishers donate the books, the authors donate their time and the proceeds go to various literacy projects both in the host city, Atlanta, and around the world.

Here's who will be there from RWQ: SUSAN ANDERSEN (our newest Quill, whose first blog will debut here on Friday, July 21st. by the way), STELLA CAMERON, SUZANNE SIMMONS and moi, JAYNE ANN KRENTZ. (Lori and Elizabeth couldn't make it this year but after the signing, we will, of course, toast them with plenty of green ghosts)

Squawkers present that night will include: ELIZABETH BEVARLY, CONNIE BROCKWAY, CHRISTINA DODD, ELOISA JAMES and TERESA MEDEIROS. (There are rumors circulating to the effect that the infamous KITTY KUTTLESTONE will also be present but the officials are trying everything within their power to squelch that gossip).

For a list of the four hundred other authors who will be signing that evening, go to
www.rwanational.org and click on "Conference" at the top. When the drop down menu appears, click on "Literacy Autographing".

Like I said, this giant signing event has Road Trip written all over it! Hope to see some of you there.

Here are the details: LOCATION: Atlanta Marriott Marquis, 265 Peachtree Center Avenue, Atlanta, GA. DATE: Wednesday, July 26. TIME: 5:30 - 8: 30 p.m. (But if you're going, plan to get there early if you want to be sure of obtaining books by all of your favorite authors. Some of the most popular writers run out of books early).

See you in Atlanta!

Sound fabulous! What a great way to raise money for literacy. Be sure to have a green ghost margarita (or two) for me. Take lots of photos, they could be fodder for speculation on the blog for weeks.

A virgin blog! Is that what this is called?

Hi, Jayne, this means that you must be back from your family holiday. Hope it was great and that you got in lots of time for yourself. Did everybody else go for every outing? I hope you'll tell us a little more about it. At least you have about a week to rest up unless you're driving cross-country. Not to be recommended in this heat, is it?

In spring 1997 my mother, sister and I visited relatives in Portland, OR and Vancouver and Reston, WA. If we'd all known each other a little better at that time I would have loved to meet you. But that was a once-in-a-lifetime trip. My brother traded in a whole bunch of his AirMiles for our flight.

I would soooo love to come to Atlanta. Alas, it's not possible. For one thing, there are no friends that have this type of interest in books. I think I mentioned that I was pretty much alone in my romance interest here. I'd come alone (I've travelled to all sorts of places alone including Williamsburg, VA, Spain and Los Angeles) but I have no car, not even the money to rent one. When is RWA going to come closer to the Canadian border? Detroit or Buffalo would be perfect. I've gone bookhunting to Detroit often enough and Buffalo is only a tad farther away.

The time I went to the RT Convention in Toronto, I was hoping to see some of you there. But no, I think none of you were except maybe Lori but I'd barely, if at all, heard of her in 1999.

So I'll have to wait and hope that another opportunity will arise. Hey, why don't some of you come to Toronto for a signing? That would be cool!!

For the uninitiated will you part with the recipe for green ghost margaritas ? They sound lucious, and must taste good, so I'd like to try them myself.

Sure wish I could go, but I'm hoping to get to the one in 2008 in San Francisco. I'm sure it'll be a great time and I look forward to reading all about it when you get back.

You all have fun! Wish I could go, but it's not to be.

Ranurgis mentioned Detroit or Buffalo....I've got a place too near the Canadian Border and the convention center is actually being built as I type this, Erie, PA. If you're interested or know someone that might be, please drop me an email and I'll send you a link to the site with more info.

Great minds, Jayne! I just did a conference blog this morning over on Squawk. (In case you guys didn't notice, we writers tend to have a bad case of conference fever around this time every year. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. obsessing about my foundation garments.)

Shelli and Teresa -- see you at the Big Signing!

By the way, I am posting here from the cruise ship. Juneau, Alaska this morning. Two huge bald eagles sitting in a tree outside the stateroom window. Glaciers yesterday and today - magnificent! Food everywhere.

But the best part is that we get free laundry service on board ship and this is a Very Good Thing because my washer broke the morning we left Seattle and there won't be time to fix it between the time we return (Sunday) and the time I leave for RWA (early Tuesay morning).

Got a feeling I'll be bringing my laundry to Atlanta...Such is the writing life!

Teresa, obsessing about your foundation garments? LOLOLOLOLOL You always make me laugh!

Jayne, few people could work bald eagles and dirty laundry into one post. You're amazing! :-)

I, of course, being a Virgo and somewhat anal, have my clean undies all neatly packed in see-through bags, so those people at TSA will not, hopefully, paw through my lacy delicates.

Laundry or no laundry, undies or no undies, see you all in Atlanta!

Jayne gets bald eagles, Jenny Crusie gets black vultures. Life just isn't fair, is it?

sgokmifm -- So, go on, Krentz--more info fascinates Mole.

ihvcfg -- I hate verifications 'cause failures grate.

What a coincidence, Teresa, I'm obsessing about my undergarments, too, mostly because the twits I ordered the things from sent the wrong kind. Bwahahaha--boo. And I don't have spare time--just like everyone else around here.

Jayne--don't worry about the laundry, just do it in the bathtub and drape it around the room. It'll add something. Not sure what it'll be, but something.

Cheers, Stella

OMG, I live practically in ATL, and have been waiting for some of you (my favorite authors) to come this way. So how do I get in? Do I have to pay or just show up or do I have to sign up or something?

And whats this thing about Jenny Crusie and black vultures?

Blogger Jayne Ann Krentz said...

Aniwi: Don't worry, admission is free to the Big Signing!

I have been asking my hubby if I could go to Atlanta and every time I asked, he kept on saying, "Next Year".

I would really love to buy those signed books!

For those who will be going, have a good time there!
