    ELIZABETH POOFS TO HAWAII

*sneaks in, looks around, whispers question*

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

    And why?

*sneaks out to go play with Hawaii's beautiful fish*

I´ve been facinated with the Middle East for the past decade and half or so. If I could go anywhere there are two places I would choose which are:

    1) Iran - this ancient country has a magnificent history and culture. I´ve read a great deal about it and I never get tired of it. It´s nature is varied, everything almost tropical climate in the North between the Caspian Sea and the Alborz mountains, to the dry deserts in the South and East. Then there is the rich cultural heritage, the literature, the architecture and ancient ruins of passed empires. Present politics aside, this country facinates me like no other.

    2) Egypt - Now this is a country that speaks for itself. Although not a contemporary power, it still has an undeniable claim to greatness through its history. Who could not be stirred by the great pyramids and the Sphinx, the Nile, Valley of the Dead, Luxor. The shear archeological and historical wealth of Egypt is amazing. Anyone with one iota of historical knowledge will apreciate Egypt´s contribution to the world.
    Sirry.

Greece and Italy are my longed for destinations. All that history!! I really wish I'd been able to go to Athens for the Olympics, but alas, it wasn't possible at the time. I also agree with anon about Egypt. To think of standing there, surrounded by things that have been there for such a long, long time just sends chills down my spine.

I love it when a mere photo can make my jaw drop. Hawaii, hands down. I'm available right now, in case anyone feels like buying.

My husband told me a few weeks ago that he'd always wanted to go on a helicopter ride. I told him that if he took me to Hawaii, I'd guarantee he'd get one.

Pick just ONE place? Oy, that's a toughie. Uhm. Ireland. Everywhere and anywhere in Ireland. Unlimited time to spend traveling the entire country. Delve into the history. Become a local. While away nights in smoky pubs listening to brogues, celtic music and eating hearty fare. Wander the landscape. Read the Book of Kells. *sigh* Oh so much to do!

One of these days... one of these days.

Thanks for a great daydream, Betty!

Well, I lived in Alaska for 30+ years, and I've driven over most of the Lower 48, with the exception of the deep south.

If I could "Poof" it wouldn't be to a different place, but a different time. Lots of different times in lots of places, actually. One thing my family all agreed on was that I was born at least 100 years too late.

I'd like to live in any world where colonizing and spreading of the population was taking place. Like the Sackett's world, or any one of the early homesteaders.

Of course, I'd have to keep my link to modern medicine and have my computer handy...

I'd pick somewhere that I haven't been. There's still a lot for me to see in Europe but at least I have an idea of what's there.

I've been intrigued by the terra cotta "army" buried for the first Chinese emperor ever since I heard about these figurines. There are also a lot of other areas of sheer natural beauty in China. I've got a friend in Hong Kong. So I think China is the place I'd really like to visit most.

Next are Australia and Maccu Picchu in Peru. Hawaii is near the top of my list exept for the heat.

These pictures are very impressive--just beautiful.

Fantastic Pictures. I'd always imagined Hawaii as beaches and black lava rock, not this wonderful blue and green mixture!

Places I will go when I can...

England - London, then up to Scotland. I'll need at least 2yrs there. *grin*

Egypt - Cairo specifically, Giza, then Luxor, Valley of the Kings, a a trip out into the Sahara for a Bedouin camp experience

Morocco - for the shopping experience in the souqs.

Ok, so who's got the winning lotto numbers so I can afford to take these trips. LOL Ah, but it's lovely to dream!

    Great Question

I should like to return to so many of the countries and areas I have visited over the years, including Hawaii. There is a conflict between the excitement of going somewhere new, and the pleasure of going back to places that that one already loves, not to mention the limitations set by time and money.

I have been to most of the places people have mentioned above, but not to New Zealand, which I should like to see one day.

Hawaii looks pretty good to me. But I have two wee doggies that I won't board or leave with unfamiliar faces - meaning anyone other than the husband or my kids.

And I can't leave them for long, because they don't eat when I'm gone.

So... Unless I get to take them with me, I won't be going too far. LOL.
    HUGS!

My funniest Christmas present was a fly swatter from the kids. They know I hate flies in the house and help me hunt them down, lol. Of course, that was not the only thing I got from them but it was the funniest.

I have always wanted to visit Australia! ... if I can only pick one place.

Other places I'd like to see - the Terra Cotta soldiers in China, the Alaskan coast, the Grand Canyon, and of course Hawaii.

One of my favorite vacations was a photo safari in South Africa a few years ago. I hope to return there soon.

    Cheers, Kirsten

All of the above! That's my answer/answers.

The photos are beautiful, EL, and definitely make me want to go back to Hawaii. But it is a long flight from Indiana. London is much closer. :-)

I hear scientists are actually working on transporters, i.e. "Beam me up, Scotty." Wouldn't that make travel a breeze?

The oddest Christmas present I ever got...

When I was 15 my 3-years younger brother gave me a "Camaro" decal straight from a '69 Camaro. He said it was gonna be the only part of a 1969 Camaro that I was ever gonna get!

Uh. I'm 40 now and no, I still don't have my '69 Camaro. He jinxed me, I just know it! ;-)

The place I'd most like to go? Hmmm, that's a tough one, but I'd have to say just about anywhere in the rocky mountains.
There is a peacefulness, yet an awesomeness that takes me out of myself; they're old and majestic and so different around every corner. There is no one view of the mountains. I've lived close to them most of my life and if I was ever to move away, there'd be a hole. Not exotic, but my place of choice ~ 'sides it never gets too hot up there in them hills... I can't stand the heat! ^.^

Sorry Lori, This is the 3rd time I'm trying this. I'm new to blogging so please forgive me if I goof up.
The silliest Christmas present I ever got was from my mom. There are 6 of us kids so we got a lot of homemade stuff. One Christmas as we opened our gifts we all started to laugh. It seems that mom had a sense of humor.
She knitted us all red and green Christmas hats with cutout beer cans sewed around the rim. We all decided to wear them to Christmas services and needless to say it caused quite a stir. Everyone was talking about Ritas(my mom) crazy kids. We all still have those hats. Madeline :)

Dunno how we got onto Christmas gifts, but my oddest was actually a Valentine's Day gift.

This was back in the '70s, when there was a lot of hoo-ha about 'equal pay for equal work' - there was a large group of Coast Guard wives where I lived in AK at that time, and they were quite militant about it. Funny thing was, it had never occured to them that equal rights also meant equal responsibilities. My DH gave me a chainsaw [not meaning at all to be funny] so I could help cut firewood, since his was way too heavy for me to use safely. The prof of the soc class I was taking [along with the most vocal of some of the militants], knew about it, so he started up a discussion of what was meant by 'modern romance' and so on in our society. I must say, when those ladies found out that 'equality' in at least a few cases involved doing 'men's work' and messing up their manicures, they finally shut up, much to the relief of the rest of us.

AHEM!! There are four countries in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland), and five in the British Isles (Ireland consists of Northern Ireland and Eire, the Republic of Ireland).

So what have you got against Wales, pray tell?
