  • Welcome to Running With Quills, your online newsletter designed to keep you up to date with what your favorite authors (that would be us) are doing throughout the year. Here you will find the release dates of our new books and get information about our backlists. We'll preview our cover art here long before the books hit the stores and we'll keep you informed about works-in-progress and special projects. You'll also receive advance notice of signings and appearances. From time to time we'll give you a peek at our worlds, tell you what we're reading, and introduce you to some new authors.

Congratulations to Susan Andersen and Jayne Ann Krentz for ranking among Amazon.com Editors' Best of 2009 in Romance!

Suzanne announces: And the winner is . . . (trumpets, please.)

    CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SEPTEMBER WINNER!

Our September contest winner is Dianne from Wheeling, Illinois. She has won a signed book from each of the Quills: Susan Andersen, Stella Cameron, Lori Foster, Jayne Ann Krentz, Elizabeth Lowell and Suzanne Simmons. We hope you enjoy the books, Dianne!

Inquiring Minds want to know: Have you noticed the "contest" tab at the top of RWQ, where you can click and enter?

Do you know that all of the Quills run monthly contests on their individual web sites? (Click on the web sites beneath each of our photos at left.)

Inquiring Minds are particularly snoopy this month: Do you enter contests in general? Have you ever won a contest? (My dh recently won a golf hat. Whoopee! Like the guy doesn't already own dozens of the things.) But my friend Tina once won a van. Yes, as in vehicle!

    So good luck to everyone!

Having a Happy Hiatus . . . wish you were here.
    Suzanne

I recently won 3 writer's contests. Boy was I excited!!! From DearReader.com I won a paper fan and a book called This is Chick-Lit edited by Lauren Baratz-Logstead. Then a couple of weeks later I won another contest from Deareader and recieved Real Women Don't Wear a Size 2 by Kelley St. John, MaidenSong by Diana Groe, Deadliest Denial by Colleen Thompson, Letters from Lydia by Kent Kameron, and Lights Out Tonight by Mary Jane Clark. I'm loving my new books.... now I just need to win a new bookcase before mine falls apart!!!

LOL, In the last six months or so I've won an ARC (Black Sun), rhw deak was whoever won had to do a review - which I did - Good Book by the way. I've also won a book by Pamela Claire and one by Emma Holly.

You could say I LOVE entering contests where the prizes are books - already published or ARC's - don't matter to me.

Future wish list for prizes include:

    Books
    or
One thing I'd really like to win is CASH! :-)

Every once in awhile, I drop my name in the hat for a drawing. A few weeks ago, at our local feed store, I almost didn't enter because I didn't plan to be there 5 hours later for a "must be present to win" drawing. However, as luck would have it, we needed to go back to get a painted pumpkin (I have a 6 year old). And won a gift card to a very nice restaurant! It was well worth the extra 6 mile drive.

    Cheers, K

A winner I am not. But I did once win a football pool with a spot someone else bought me as a tip [I was a waitress], and a mountain bike in a store drawing [which was promptly stolen]. The best thing was a cash prize in a writing contest - required by the creative writing class I was taking - which paid for my first PC. It's been rebuilt so many times that all that's left is the hard drive.. or is it the zip drive... or the modem... or the files on the old hard drive which is now the data drive... Whatever, it's still going and so am I!

But I do have friends who win stuff, the most impressive of which was a week-long trip to Rome. Yes, the one in Italy.

While living in Indianapolis (1982) I won tickets to the NBA Allstar game and all the guys I worked with were so jealous. That is the only thing that I have ever won and I enter contest all the time.

I could say I'd like to win a million dollars, but it'd have to be a miracle as I don't buy lottery tickets.

I do, however, enter in Writerspace contest. So far my luck has be nil. I'm still trying!

So congrats to Dianne, well done, and good luck to everyone for the November draw... I can't wait to enter (it's not up yet)

Yeah, I definitely enter contests though I don't always get to all the ones I want to. Yes, I've won a few books though rarely from the authors I'm really hoping for. You guys and some others are just too popular, though I did win 2 books from one of you in a chat contest.

For the last 11 years it's been important for me to win books because I'm unable to work and therefore don't have the necessary funds.

Since I've entered contests on the Internet, I've won the odd bit of money (highest amount CDN $100 as well as an early I-pod or I-pod mini and a digital camera. My brother bought the i-Pod from me to give it to one of his employees as a Christmas present. The digital camera is lost in the wilds of the basement boxes.

I've won a few small scholarships and book prizes and once won a Cabbage Patch Doll, the last thing I really wanted but my co-workers badgered me until I finally bought a ticket.

    So, "them's my winnings".

Actually, I do better in contests that aren't pure luck. Actually having to do something to win it has always been better for my mother and me.

Generally I don't enter contests, Sue. I did win a box of chocolates for finishing first in a roller-skating while hula-hooping race:)

    Suzanne,

I'm so glad to know that you're hiatus-ing happily! Congratulations Dianne.

Yes, I enter the RWQ contest monthly. I enter some contests regularly, others not often. I won a gift basket from Heather Graham in a September Writerspace contest. It was terrific. It's the first thing I've ever won through a contest of any kind.

    Have a terrific day!

I love contests. I think the first thing I ever won was a 45 of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" a church raffle when I was a teenager. Yes, those were the days before CDs and MP3 players. Things have been a little dry since then, although I am keeping up hope that I will win the lottery and prove once and for all that money will not change me. I'll just dress better and have more shoes.

My motto when it comes to contests is that if I don't win, at least I made it harder for someone else to win. :)

I've always wanted to win the lottery, but since I haven't bought a lottery ticket yet, the chances seem pretty slim. :-)
