What, Susan wonders, is everyone watching?

Okay, I admit it. I've got no blog chops tonight--my mind's a wasteland. So, speaking of such, what's everyone watching on the tube these days?

For my part, I'm loving Grey's Anatomy. I've watched from Episode One. I originally tuned in because it's set in Seattle and I'm always curious to see how they handle my hometown. But from the get-go I was sucked in by the characters, the sheer level of talent (LOVE Sandra Oh) and, of course, the romances that were busting out all over.

I also like Veronica Mars. Do I think it's believable? Nope. Does it make me laugh and entertain the heck out of me? You betcha. Ditto with Desperate Housewives.

A new show for me this year is Ugly Betty. America Ferrer took that title role and just made it her own. She makes you care so much about the character and her entire family. And just when you think one of the cast's characters is about to slip into a cliche he/she takes off in a direction I for one didn't see coming.

Still watching Lost, but it's not the must-see it used to be. Although I do enjoy looking at Sawyer and Sayid. :)

Oh! Oh! Almost forgot Heroes! I was a big Marvel comic book reader as a kid (hey, I had older brothers) and Heroes is one big Marvel comic of a drama. My only bitch is the white subtitles when Hiro and his sidekick are talking Japanese to each other. Hello! Over 50, here--can't read that white on light. But I'll forgive that because I get to watch the cheerleader. Hayden Panetteri grew up on Guiding Light, which I've watched off and on for the past 30 years while eating my lunch.

Hmmm. Soap Operas. Now that's another entire blog.

Save the cheerleader, save the world

    So what are you watching?

I don't watch much TV, partly because there's no way to get a schedule of what's on which channel when. The commonest are People's Court, Judge Judy, Animal Precinct, and Larry King, if the mood strikes and it's not a rerun. DH is addicted to 24, but I always ended up missing so much I quit watching it altogether. Fortunately, we each have our own TV, since we mostly don't like the same things. He gets a kick out of Jerry Springer [I don't, unless it's 3 AM and I'm temporarily insane] and if he watches Animal Precinct he tends to want to shoot the TV since he can't reach the people who are such shits.

Right now I'm ignoring all TV and listening to a batch of Laurell Hamilton's books which the talking book library sent - and amazingly enough, they sent me Second Sight last week, too! Now, if there were just some way to get the readers to talk as fast as I used to be able to read print, I'd be a happy camper.

    Susan,

I watch (or DVR...lol) a few really good shows:

    House
    CSI (the original)
    Bones
American Idol (oh, shaddap, I'm not the only one that watches it...lol)

Then, of course, there are the "non-fiction" kinda shows, too:

    Treasures of the Trust
    Anthony Bourdain:No Reservations
    Soundoff with Matt Pinfield
    Inside the Actor's Studio

...and anything on the Discovery or History Channel that catches my eyes... plus Jeopardy at 7:30 each night with the HHP ;-)

I think, as of this morning, we have about 25 things on the DVR to watch...lolol... sheesh.

    HAPPY FRIDAY! YaY!

I watch Grey's Anatomy too!! And Veronica Mars...

Shows, for me, are divided into three camps. There is the ones I must watch when they air: Grey's, Smallville, House, SUpernatural.

Then there are the shows i watch on DVD: Veronica MArs, CSI. (CAn I say what a sweet invention shows being released on DVD are?)

And then there are the older shows on DVD that I occasionally watch: Buffy, X-Files...

Love, love, LOVE Heroes! Great show. But I never watched soaps, so I don't know the cheerleader from there. LOL.

The only MUST-SEE show I watch is 24. Can't miss it, and I love it.

Occasionally, I also watch Supernatural with the husband. And when possible, I watch Judge Judy. She kicks some serious butt and she's as conservative as I am. That's nice to see in this day and age!

    Hugs,

    Lori

Drat... forgot to mention that I also watch NASCAR and football, both pro and college. For news info I usually tune to Fox.

Holy crap I watch a lot of TV. Shame on me. Yet I read at least 4 books a week. I must have a lot of time on my hands...lolol.

House - My favorite of the moment.
Boston Legal - A close second runner to House, almost a tie. James Spader is just great and so is Candace Bergen.
Desperate houswifes - Amazingly they´re still fun.
Raymond - I never would have believed it, but I actually do enjoy it.
Lost - every once in while now, their standard is slipping.
Planet Earth - this is my favorite kind of show, informative, well done and actually educates you.
CSI - I like NY & Las Vegas best.

    Pet peeve:
What I like LEAST about USA´s TV shows. - They don´t end soon enough.

It´s really strange actually this consistency of having to milk the cow until it´s not only dry but dead. (In Icelandic we call it "blóðmjólka" or blood milking). Take Lost for example. There you have a great show that would have been perfect for one season (12 shows or so) and would actually have been great if they had just ended the story in episode 12. But now, now it´s in its third season and getting like everything else, predictable.
I like my TV shows the same way I like my books and movies, with a beginning, a middle and an END. I will never know why US TV station can´t just make short good show and then start another short good show instead of dragging a tired plot on and on until nobody bothers to watch anymore and the show dies.
Because let´s face, 90% of all shows become boring after the first season, and 100% after the second season. In my opinion at least.

Okay... I am officially approaching geekdom- or so my nieces and nephew are telling me because I have given up a good bit of TV watching in order to watch mares foal on a live stream video feed from any number of places across the world.

    Sad, but very addicting.

I've been waiting for one maiden mare to give birth for close to two weeks. Every morning her owner posts "we're really close" and every morning I hide the video stream on the lower left side of my work monitor just so I won't miss it!!

Nature at its finest. I'm hooked.

... and apparently a geek to boot!

Ooh, I'm loving House, Bones, Grey's and actually Medium--I wasn't sure about this one from the previews, but caught it one day, and I've been hooked ever since.

I can't seem to really get into the 24, Prison Break, Lost thing, they seem too "soap opera" for me (even though I know I just said I liked Grey's).

Gray's Anatomy--for the same reasons as you, Susan. 24--wow, such drama. Animal Planet whenever the subject is dogs or cats or horses. And news, news, news.

Don't watch television during work hours. Usually have to TIVO everything and wait for a blank period (that means, a perios when the mind quits imagining)to watch a show.

    Cheers, Stella

I'm addicted to Grey's and Men in Trees which is always a nice relief after an intense Grey's. I love CSI but seeing as how it's also on Thursday and I don't have DVR, I just wait for the re-runs on Spike TV. I've also gotten into Brothers and Sisters on ABC, however I usually watch the episodes online. I can never remember when shows are on so this option to watch episodes online is fantastic!

Hmm...I love documentaries. I sometimes watch Charlie Rose, if I can stay up that late. Enjoy "The Antique Roadshow." It's like a treasure hunt. Ditto for "Cash in the Attic" on BBC-America.

AND, my all-time favorite TV show, "Stargate SG-1," which will air the final handful of episodes starting in April. After ten seasons, the SciFi Channel has pulled the plug. (I'm not speaking to the SciFi Channel, as a result.)
Thank goodness I own all the DVDs.

House is the only must-see-TV that I currently watch. Although, I'm getting a little peeved it keeps getting pre-empted by American Idol. I guess it's worth the wait because I really enjoy the snarky dialogue. And when exactly did Hugh Laurie get to be so sexy?

I love Heroes, too. And we watch way, way too much news at my house. Mythbusters is a biggie right now, too. And I'm a hard core American Idol fan...I watched all three nights this week. (Pretty sad, huh.) All I can say to defend myself is that I usually am doing something else while watching TV (laundry, dishes, etc.)

Suzanne - I like Stargate, too. I loved the movie but I haven't seen the show as much as I would like. I'm a big scifi geek in general.

I watch travel shows, forensic-true-shows, Animal Planet. I have heard of some of the shows you mention, I'd have to be in another country not to have, but I do not enjoy watching them and so I do not. I also like most PBS and National Geographic shows....the only "regular" show I enjoy is once in a while I watch Walker, Texas Ranger.
I too am not speaking to Sci-Fi since they stopped re-running that show that was set in the future and had a talking head in the TV. MAX HEADROOM!

Okay, I've got to give House a look-see. We don't have the pay channels and I'm guessing that's what some of the shows that were mentioned are on.

Carolyn, no need to feel apologetic for Idols. You and a bazillion viewers can't all be wrong. :) I love Dancing with the Stars when it's on in the fall.

I also watched Medium but it and Lost are on at the same time, so I'll catch up in the spring. I also like the Closer in the summer months. Those are about the only two shows we watch come rerun season.

And CBell, isn't it amazing what you can find to suit your tastes? You go with the foal births!

So, Lori, what happened on Monday's Heroes? My Replay machine ate it up when it insisted we re:register after my husband upgraded the hard drive.

I love "Dancing with the Stars" as well, and they're starting a new season on Monday nights in March- not sure of the exact date.

I watch Monk regularly and House sometimes. House is just too uncomfortably rude for me. I enjoyed the story line with the cop that was after him- House finally started to show a little humanity and humility.

We also watch The Dog Whisperer for tips on dealing with our menagerie.

Other than that, it's HGTV for decorating ideas and Food TV, especially "Good Eats." Alton Brown is my perfect geeky cook.

I catch "Jeopardy" when I can. Someday I'm going to be on the show and win a lot of money.

Hmmm. I apparently watch a lot more TV than I thought. I blame having cable- we never did when the kids were little.

What TV do I watch? Let's see...

    CSI ...new ones and re-runs
24...though that took a back seat while the Nora Roberts four books were on the Tellie
    News shows
    Dare I say it...Bill O'Reilly
Veronica Mars...takes me back to school

CBELL...where do you find the mare watch. We've done that for real quite a few times...had one mare that went a full month and two days over due date (11 months normally)

I'm still TV-less. That's going on a year and a half now. I must admit that I haven't missed it badly. For some shows, yes and the news from time to time.

I miss it mainly for "24" of which I've missed almost 2 seasons and I don't have the money to buy the CDs. The other shows are history television shows, including JAG. But I was very glad to miss the elections we've had here in Canada. There's just too much mudslinging everywhere and very little as far as constructive ideas go.

Otherwise, who wants to hear about war casualties and all the other hateful things that are going on in the world. My niece's fiancé has a friend who was injured very badly last summer in Afghanistan and was not expected to live. I've hesitated to ask what has happened to him.

But I do hope to get TV soon though it probably means that I'll have to change phone and ISP as well. I haven't examined all my options yet.

Susan, we used the DVR for it because the grandson was here that night and it's impossible to really absorb a show while someone (who is 17 mos old) is busy naming his eye, and nose and then poking me in the eye to make sure I understand, and playing with a noisy Elmo who sings the most ridiculous songs, and his truck that (of all things) plays YMCA, so.... we'll hopefully watch it tonight! My husband watches huge amounts of TV. He likes 24 and the CSI shows, Boston Legal, House, Grey's Anatomy, American Idol, Survivor, Amazing Race, at least one newscast a night, a morning news show, and I don't know what else. He can't watch 24 when I'm in the house -- it gives me the creeps.
The only show I watch regularly is Numbers. I know the speed of the math calculations are often unrealistic, but I never knew there were so many ways to approach different problems.
Also, we lived in a university town for years, and stories about professors intrigue me.
Every once in a while I watch Boston Legal. I never knew there was more to Shatner than Star Trek. And any show with Bergen has to be good. One of my friends pointed out that Bergen is one of the few older women in TV who is witty, competent, attractive.

As for me, just CSI and Medium. And not that y'all don't have a mountain high TBR stack but Allsion DuBouis book - Don't Kiss Them Good-Bye is an interesting read - short too.

    Go to marestare.com

On the left tool bar there is a link for live cams that will take you to a page with many different ranches that have these set up. At the bottom of the list, you will find a foal calendar and an alert monitor that will let you know which ranch is foaling at which time. It really is remarkable!

Susan, House is on Fox TV - not a pay channel - on Tuesday nights at 8pm when Idol is not on. I don't even have cable or satellite (yes, I know I'm weird, but why spend the money when I don't watch that much TV-just mostly on Mon - Thurs. Too much else to do the rest of the time!)

Let's see, TV, I love Men in Trees, CSI, comedy shows on CBS on Monday nights, especially Two and a Half Men (risque for a family time comedy, but LMAO funny!), Dancing with the Stars, Criminal Minds, and Numb3rs.

I have 2 children, 7 and 9. My evenings and weekends are filled with Sponge Bob or Catscratch. Occasionally, I loose my mind and turn the channel to "gasp" the History or Travel Channel! I love Passport to Europe and pretend when I'm watching it that I'm actually taking my dream vacation! LOL!

I enjoy reading mostly, but as I've grown older I've decided that news was kinda important if I didn't want to wear a sweater when it was going to be in the 90's, or a white shirt during heavy afternoon storms! I like some of the older sitcoms, Friends and Fraiser, Reba and sometimes I'll even watch a little Food Network (I love Alton)

I've got to say, I'm really a big fan of most of the shows named, especially House (and as far as I can tell, Hugh Laurie's always been sexy, even when he's doing the comedy bit. Must be the startling blue eyes...),anyway, I also love Boston Legal and Lost. Really glad they're expanding the storyline on Lost, but wonder how far can they take it? One show not mentioned, that I really enjoy is on ABC Mondays called What About Brian. The characters are funny, the guys are hot. It has comedy and drama. I'm beginning to like it better than Grey's. My pet peeve with TV? REALITY SHOWS! Oh my God. How many ways can producers get people to hummiliate themselves on national tv? The only reality show I watch is COPS, and that's because I like to see how really stupid people are. When I watch tv, I want fantasy, I have reality every day.....
