Jayne sits down over a cup of tea to chat with Elizabeth Guest.

Jayne: (Getting to the good stuff right away) Boy, howdy, that's one really weird necklace you're wearing.

    Elizabeth G: It's a gold cartouche pendant.

    Jayne: I knew that.

Elizabeth G: It was a gift from my husband to celebrate the sale of NIGHT LIFE. He had it shipped to me from Cairo. The hieroglyphs spell out my name.

Jayne: Right, hieroglyphs. Yeah, well, I took Spanish in school. Okay, moving right along, it's no secret here at RWQ that you've gone over to the dark side. Talk about a personality makeover! The first book in your new vampire paranormal romance series is NIGHT LIFE. Having read the manuscript, I'm here to assure readers that this is one very different, quite wonderful twist on the vamp story. Tell us about it.

Elizabeth G: It all grew out of my fascination with ancient pharaonic Egypt—a lifelong passion of mine. A few years ago I created the character of Seti III. Then I looked around for a contemporary setting and a story in which to place him. Turns out that the mythology of ancient Egypt is perfect for retelling the vampire myth. I mean right there in the Book of the Dead it talks about the Eater of Blood and the Breaker of Bones.

    Jayne: (Wincing.) Sounds gruesome.

Elizabeth G: It’s not really. At least not the way I tell the story. I can’t read some of the vampire books or watch most of the vampire movies because they’re essentially horror stories with a lot of blood spurting everywhere. (Shudders.) I wanted to create a world as lush, as sensual, as exotic and as erotic as the royal court of a man who had once been a warrior-king, a pharaoh.

Jayne: You sure achieved your objective! That waterfall shower scene, alone, is worth the price of admission. Woo-hoo! And speaking of your hero, Adrian King, he's gone through a few changes since he was a pharaoh.

Elizabeth G: Yep. In the current day Adrian is a billionaire casino owner in Vegas and a collector of fine wines.

    Jayne: And a vampire.

Elizabeth G: Well, yes, that, too.

Jayne: And like all true Alpha Males, Adrian meets his match?

Elizabeth G: Of course. Can’t have a larger-than-life hero without an equally strong heroine. In NIGHT LIFE it’s brilliant Egyptologist Christine Day.

Jayne: Christine has a few interesting powers of her own.

Elizabeth G: I like to believe that every woman has special powers—she just has to learn how to tap into them.

Jayne: I'm with you on that. Writers often talk about their core story, the story at the heart of every book they write whether it’s a contemporary romantic comedy or a vampire paranormal. What’s yours?

Elizabeth G: It always has been and always will be one man, one woman, meant for each other...for this lifetime and for whatever comes after. You see, I believe that love is eternal.

Jayne: You’re a true romantic at heart.

    Elizabeth G: Damn straight!

Jayne: It definitely shows in NIGHT LIFE, the first novel in your new Pharaohs Rising series. Thanks for chatting with us today about the book.

Elizabeth G: Can I just mention my really cool new web site:
    www.elizabethguest.net?

Jayne: I think that was a rhetorical question, folks, but please check out NIGHT LIFE, a story that reviewers are raving about and calling a "completely original and fresh twist to the vampire story," a "unique and spellbinding" addition to the paranormal romance genre.

Stella, thank you for the kind words and ongoing encouragement as I head into uncharted waters--at least for me.

I've always loved the expression "Here be Dragons." That's kind of how I'm feeling these days: poised on the brink. :-)

Thanks for checking out the new web site, Deb. Still a few tweaks to go, like the animation.

    Hey Elizabeth,
Seems working long hours is a curse for many these days. I'm hairy-busy, and I noted the very full moon the other night! Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Soon as time allows, I'm diving into Night Life! It just sounds delish!

Thanks for venturing out to something new. :-)

Yep, the new web site is great! Cissy outdid herself. Maybe it will start a whole new Egyptian craze.

The web site is great! Congratulations!

And Jayne, in a previous post a few days ago I said I do not like historicals, except those by Jane Castle. Sooooorry!!! I meant Amanda Quick. Just goes to show you that I do read you in all your 3 names. Well, actually I've only read two of the futuristics: Gholy Ghost and Zinnia (sp?). Couldn't find any other one.

    Happy Easter, everybody!

Stella, that is one spooky eyeball! And it sounds like one spooky book, too. There's some late night reading in my future.

All right. Off to the on-line bookstores.

Christina, you know you can't stay away from the Quills. I'd say it's our sparkling personalities and erudite prose that make us so attrative to those who usually dwell with chickens, but it's probably those green thingies we drink.

Egypt nerd? Did someone call my name?

And I'd put my TBR pile up against yours any day, Dodd. :-) That said, I have left plenty of room for the first two books in your DARKNESS CHOSEN series coming out this summer!

    Elizasuz~I like it!

attrative~lololololololol That's what I get for sipping a green thingie while I'm typing. Make that "attractive."

I ask you: why doesn't blogger have spell check?

    5:45 PM
    Anonymous Ranurgis said...

I'm pining for my spelling checker too. In trying to get my computer to download and upload faster--it's supposed to be hi-speed but can take up to 10 min to download a page, I called the ISP and he had me erase a bunch of files. That included my Google tool bar which had a lot of things in it that made life easier for me. I could fill in forms, have an on-page search engine, look for maps and pictures from there. In short it saved me a lot of time. Now I can't even put it back on because it will no longer go with my Win 98SE program.

And has the computer speeded/sped up. No. It's just getting more junk in my temporary files and I'm also getting a slew of pop-ups.

And I don't like yahoo. No offence meant for those who like it.

And Ho! Ho! we got more snow and are likely to see more before Easter. I'd hate to see that mushy stuff on the roads freeze. And is it ever windy again too.

I specifically snuck out on Monday evening to try to get your two books. Didn't find E.G.'s at all and saw only two mousy looking SecS pbs. Maybe the rest were all gone already. I guess I'll have to wait until the weekend in the hope that some of the stores will have new stock. Hey, that's not far away any more. I've spent most of this week translating English legales of a warranty into French. And French still has very specific rules to follow. You can't just mash words together.

ranurgis~A few bookstores may have put NIGHT LIFE out sooner, but in most places it was Tuesday--if they unpacked the boxes asap. :-)

Also, sometimes if only a copy or two are left, the bookstore may move it back into the romance section and not out front with the new releases.

Weatherwise: We turned on our a/c Monday. It was nearly 80 degrees here. Last night it snowed! :-)

So you've got the crazy weather too. Here it's been snowing, lightly, since yesterday afternoon and it's still very windy.

You have to remember that I live in Canada and, unfortunately, we usually don't get new books right away. The only ones I know of that we get at the same time as other places are the Harry Potters. But then, those are co-ordinated worldwide.

Here it also depends on when books are delivered to the stores that have a discount on books. (I have to try those first.) Since those are put right out on the shelves by a company that does that kind of delivery, you have to depend on their schedule. Unfortunately, the schedule seems to change constantly as well.

I'm waiting till Saturday to give it another try.

I should check out your new website again. I think not all the pages were working yet when I had my first look.

I wish you all the best with this book. Big thumbs up.

Speaking of the cartouche necklace, it must be really great. Could you let us see a picture of it on the blog or your site sometime?

When my brother was forced to go to Mexico last Nov. to photograph a nephew's wedding, he had to pay his own way. I'm not sure if he actually made back the money he paid for the trip in orders for his photos. I was reminded of that since my nephew and his wife just sent a little thank you note a few days ago. In this day of digital cameras, so much has changed in the field of photography. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that probably a third of the guests had digitals and were constantly taking photos. Of course exchange over the Internet is rampant and it's very hard for my brother to get a job where only photography is needed. So now he's more of a graphic designer.

His wife couldn't go with him anyway because she's a teacher. So he bought her a silver pendant with her name in Mayan. It was really nice. I haven't seen her wear it yet but she was apparently very pleased with it.

I myself got a document spelling out my birthdate by the Mayan calendar, which actually ends this "age" in 2013.

I guess we'll see what that actually means.

That was my second trip to Mayan country. I was still able to climb the pyramid at Chichen Itza. Now it's forbidden to climb it because too many accidents have happened.

ranurgis~I've never quite conquered that whole digital camera thing:-), but I will try to get a photo taken of my cartouche necklace and post it to my web site.

    Mayan country sounds fascinating!

    Happy Spring!

I'm on the last few pages of NIGHT LIFE and I have to say, I basically devoured it in a day - which is really saying something since I'm a painfully slow reader (I get distracted rather easily - of cours this time I was too distracted by Adrian to notice my usually distracting surroundings). I can't wait to meet everyone else in the series. You are a success...once again!
