    Vacation anyone?

Yes, I finished my book last Friday and mailed it off to my editor. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket This morning I had an email from my her saying it was wonderful and I didn't have any big revisions. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket What a relief!

With my time now temporarily free, I wanted to vacation, vacation, vacation! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket The first trip was a quickie drive south to drop in on the middle son and his new wife, and to drop off some of the bigger wedding items they received that wouldn't fit in Jake's smaller Ford. That's them to the left, and don't they look grand!

After breakfast at their apartment, it was on to the Cumberland Falls!
<--- I didn't take my camera this time, so here's an older photo of the newlyweds on a prior trip to the falls. Usually that water is pretty cold, but on my trip this time, it felt like bath water, and the rocks were scorching!

It's about a 3 hour drive for us, and we stay in this somewhat simple hotel that's two minutes away from the falls. They welcome my dogs---> and they're so convenient. But this time... we only walked to the falls twice. Good gravy, we've had a drought, and then to top things off, we've had weeks of 100 degree days. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
It was so hot out that even my little doggies kept trying to swim in the calmer water that leads to the falls.

We finally gave up and went for dinner, then a movie. We saw Rush Hour 3 and laughed ourselves silly.

Anyway, the next mini-vacation I want to take is to Turkey Foot Part, where we can rent a cabin on the lake, and a boat for the weekend. There are trails and caves, and there's a hot tub on the back porch. I want my kids to all come, too, and we could have our last hurrah of the season.

But those tempts aren't letting up, so I'm not sure how fun an outdoorsy vaca will be.
I considered one of those indoor water parks, where you swim and play all day, have dinner out, watch movies... but you know, we're really outdoor-type people!

    So I dunno...

What type of vacation do you prefer? Considering I'm in Ohio and I'm not going to fly anywhere where I can't take my two little fur babies, do you have any suggestions for me?

Have you had these miserable temperatures in your neck of the woods? My grass is all dead and it's so ugly. With over 5 acres, I can over water the flowers - which are surviving nicely!
    How's your yard holding up?

Yeah, that's a lot of nothing this morning, but I'm obsessing on this weather, and watching my free time tick away!

    Hugs to all!

    LORI!

Have I got the place for you! Upstate NY! We are cooler than you guys, and anywhere along Lake Ontario where there are beaches and parks and hiking areas. The area around the Finger Lakes is great for hiking trails and wine trails and waterfalls.

Don't forget our friends in Niagara Falls too! And also,
Letchworth State Park, Genesee Museum, my own home stomping grounds of Fair Haven Beach. Ithaca where Cornell is. Lots to do.

Whatever you do, enjoy! We all need our vacations!

Hey Lori, congrats on getting the book done and having some time to play.

It has been hot out here hasn't it?

Yikes. I have been so tired lately and sleepy I know its from the weather.

I don't have any suggestions for you. I am taking a vacation day today and I am being a lazy girl.

    Enjoy whatever you do.

    Hey Lori!
Congrats on wrapping up the book - I know we'll all love it!
I subscribe to Ohio magazine - lots of great ideas for local travel there. Let me know if you'd like me to mail you a couple of them. We enjoy visiting Lake Erie - the Jet Express to Put-In-Bay is always fun, although that's obviously a little farther for you than for us. You're right about the heat though, it's pretty uncomfortable outside right now.
The Bob Evans Festival is coming in a month or so - we'll be in touch closer to the time to see if you and Allen want to meet us there for the day - it's always a great time.
    Have a great weekend!
    Big hugs!

    Hiya Lori,

I've used a few websites in the past that allow for easy searches for places that allow pets. Since I also live in Ohio I know that there are several vacation areas that are accessible to Ohio are included.

Congratulations on getting your book in, going on mini-vacations and having a super family. Enjoy!

Congratulations on getting the book finished, Lori. I know that feeling well, myself because I just turned one in, too (my latest Jayne Castle). What a glorious sense of freedom. We're headed to Hawaii to celebrate...

Congratulations, Lori. I hope I can say the same about my book in the sort of near future. For a vacation you could always do what folks used to do in So. Cal. -- drive to the Colorado river, put lawn chairs in the water, and sit in it up to your neck! Must be some lakes you could do that in. ;-)

Congrats, Lori, on getting the book in and approved so quickly. What a great feeling! (A feeling I hope to have myself within the next few weeks.)

For a really short vacation--like one day: My husband and I drive out into the country, stop at our favorite roadside market, buy fresh fruits abnd veggies (or soon a carload of pumpkins.) Then we drive on another half hour to Lake Winona: beautiful lake and wonderful artisan shops. We have a couple of favorite restaurants, too, including an old-fashioned diner with the best burgers and fries.

That's one "vacation" we're looking forward to as soon as I finish up the WIP!!!!

    Happy weekend all!

Hey Susan, that sounds LOVELY! Long drive though. LOL. I can see my little doggies get fed up with the drive real quick.

Judy, you deserve a day off! Enjoy!

Laurie, yes, I'd love a few of the mags! Thanks. And if possible, Allen and I would enjoy joining you for the Bob Evan's festival - whatever that is. LOL

    Happy Friday y'all!

Now Jayne, throwing out a trip to Hawaii is just plain mean. LOL. I would soooo love to go. But I can't bear to leave my fur babies behind, and finding an airline who accepts them is a lot harder than you think!
Enjoy the vaca enough for me, too. LOL

EL, see, I like looking at the water, but the big fishes scare me. LOL. Seriously! I could take a dip in my own pond - the boys do a lot - but man oh man - too many things swimming around in there!

EG, that sounds heavenly. I love artsy areas, or antique venues. Lots to see and so many treasures!

    Happy weekend,

    Lori

Have you been to any of the islands on Lake Erie lately? Those are fun. And it's not at all bad, up here in Northern Ohio. Our grass just turned green again last week. Why not try one of the State Parks up here?

All you efficient writers, finishing books all the time... I am only now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel for my current major publication that I have been working on for the best part of a dozen years.

Our weather has suddenly turned cool. I went out about 6 p.m. and the wind was fairly gusty and cool. I definitely wished I had worn a warmer top than the one I had even though I wore a windbreaker type jacket. It's the coolest day we've had in 5 or 6 weeks. Maybe it'll get down south to you.

I was just reading about the high temps in the southern states and the resulting deaths. I hope some of our cool winds go down farther south to cool off things a bit at least. I don't know exactly where in Ohio you are but I suspect that for your furry family even driving towards Detroit and then coming to Ontario might be a little bit too much.

Hope all of you suffering from the heat will soon get some relief. I don't know what weather system is affecting us right now, but I certainly hope it keeps up for a while at least and brings some rain as well. Most of the corn crop was adversely affected by the heat and lack of rain this summer.

P.S. Lori, what kind of uniform is your son wearing? They really do make a lovely couple.

    Hi Lori:

Glad the books in and approved--oh, what a luverly feeling.

Our doggie is not good in the car. She's better than she was but still does a lot of climbing around. We have a dog car seat which is really like a soft-lined bed that straps in. She straps into the bed, not that she stays there. She prefers to have me reaching around every two minutes to untangle her.

I like to just start driving without knowing where we'll go. I learned how to do that in England where we ended up at some pretty village, or a lovely old pub by a stream and enjoyed a quiet hour or two.

My next vacation is to England to see my little family. I'm looking forward to it--and to finishing the current book before I leave. We'll also see friends in Paris and spend a couple of days in Bruges because I've always wanted to see it. It's an old merchant city that went out of favor when the canal had troubles (hundreds of years ago.)

Your son and his wife are lovely, Lori. What a thrill for you.

Hey Spyscribbler (love that, btw) I've never been to any of the islands on Lake Erie, but it sounds terrific! I'd have to check mileage and all that, but I'm sure hubby would love it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Agtigress, congrats on seeing the light at the end of your tunnel.
;-) We're all different, and we all work differently.

Ranurgis, I'm a little north of Cincinnati, a little south of Columbus. Still southern Ohio, though.
My son isn't in a uniform. He chose a black tux with a nero (sp?) collar, no tie, and a red shirt. LOL. His brothers matched him in red shirts (WITH ties) and black slacks. Our grandson came close with black slacks, a white shirt and a red vest. It was the closest we could find. They all looked terrific!

Hugs to all. I'm off to Columbus for a day trip/workshop presentation with Dianne today.

Stella, you and my hubby are of a like mind. He wants to just go and see where we land. I want to know that we have a room that'll accept my doggies... LOL
I have a carrier for them, and when they're in it together, they do better. Brock, my little male, gets car sick, so the vet has a dose of Benedryl for him that makes him sleepy and settles his tummy.
He only wants out of the cozy carrier with Tootsie when he has to visit a grassy hillside. ;-)

ENGLAND! Sounds lovely. Good luck on getting the book done in a timely manner so you can have a very relaxing visit.

    Hugs!

    Hey Lori

Congrats - again - on finishing the book.I know how much of a relief that is.

Our yard is holding up very well - but the weather has been in our favour. Our well usually runs dry over the summer, a couple of times. Two years ago was the worst - I think I ordered water 6-7 times (and that was the first summer I had owned the house!!). But this year, in my mind, has been the perfect blend of warm and water.

We had a wicked thunder and lightning storm the other night - my dog jumped in my bed at 2:30 and slept there until 9:30. The lighning, which was successive strikes, lit up my whole bedroom.

I can't make any vacation suggestions - like you, my dog decides a lot of my choices. We were going to go to my grandparents' cottage in Cape Breton (it is on the side of a mountain) but didn't at the last moment. Taking my dog there worries me because they have coyotes. :(

My two month summer vacation is coming to an end... but in the upcoming year, I have the 10 day trip to Europe and hopefully a couple of days in Ohio. ;)

ah... wonderful memories of Cumberland Falls are coming back to me now... whenever we visited my grandparents (in the Corbin, KY area) we would grab a bucket of KFC after church and head to the falls for a picnic and frolic in the water!

Now, I am itching to go back that way! Thanks for the memories!
