ELIZABETH AND FIRE

Since I finished my book in early September...

I've spent three weeks in Canadian waters on our boat

Came back to Anacortes for three days

went to Seattle to meet with publisher and VP

went to Hawaii for eight days

went back to Seattle to meet with agent (or did I get that reversed?)

drove back to Anacortes for three days to pack up the house

drove to Placerville for three days to visit grandkids for son's 40th birthday

drove to Sedona...

Oh, wait. Halfway through the drive to Sedona we turned around and went back to CA to help my sister with a family emergency.

Three rather exhausting days later, we drove for 12 hours to Sedona. Home almost long enough to unpack and southern CA goes up in flames.

We have family and friends there. They are all under mandatory evacuation.

All safe, thank God.

We're holding our breath on their houses and businesses.

And during all of the above, there were contract negotiations for next two books.

Ah, life.

Gotta love it.

And there goes the @#$%^(*&^%$#!!!! phone again...

Hope y'all are safe with those you love.

Hugs, Elizabeth. What an utterly stressful and exhausting time for you, your family and friends. Hope you got in a little bit of relaxation in B.C. waters before you you were plunged into the fray.

I hadn't even heard about SoCal's fires before this. The site where I usually get my news has been under construction and without TV or newspaper or other reliable Web news site, I sometimes feel like the man on Mars.

I hope the phone call was good news or, for once, an annoying marketing call--all I seem to get lately. Actually anything but more bad news.

I'm praying everything will go well for family and friends.

Hugs to you all.

Heh. Sounds a bit like my life - hurry up and do this, do that, and something else was supposed to be done last week, never-ending phone calls [I got a cell phone with a number that apparently belonged to a non-English speaking person, and I’m constantly getting calls from people I don’t understand], and one crisis after another, all in different directions, all needing attention, all in different places. I feel sometimes like the poster child for Multi-tasking. At least in my case, there’s only one really bad one coming up, and it’s not unexpected, but that doesn’t help much.

Best to you and yours, and I’ll xxx my fingers for good luck regarding the fires.

Welcome back, Ann. What a rotten few weeks--with the exception of a few items--fishing and Hawaii may have been okay:)

These fires in CA are horrendous. I keep hoping I'll here the winds have stopped and the fire is under control. That's not happening.

Cheers, Stella

Must have just missed your post post prior to emailing M about your family and CA critters. It's good to see you. I'm glad you had Hawaii, fishing and the birthday visit. As nice as it is to spend time with your sister the circumstances must have made that as stressful as the rest of your days. Sending hugs and prayers. Suepicky.

Whew, EL! Busy girl! LOL. All is safe and sound here in Ohio. The HHP grew up in Poway (SanDiego area), CA and was very saddened to see that the fires have reached that far. We have friends and family there, too but all are safe and sound... if temporarily unhoused. *sigh*

Elizabeth, I'm so sorry. The fires are just scary - a monster of Mother Nature. So many are affected, displaced and hurt. It breaks my heart.
I'm glad you got to do your vacationing, even with the craziness of negotiations and whatever your sister's crisis might have been. I think most of the country is sending up prayers for all those involved in the fires. Hang in there.
Big hugs,

Lori

Whoa. Elizabeth is a busy girl! My thoughts are with your friends and family in SoCal. I've got a friend down there, too, but so far she and her family haven't been affected. Her parents have been evacced, tho.

And your publisher and agent came to Seattle for you? You are MUCH more important than I. :)

Sure hope your sister's emergency was resolved satisfactorially.

The winds are dying down. They are able to do air drops now. It is VERY smoky all over San Diego County. The onshore flow (winds coming off the ocean) is running into the Santa Ana Winds (those winds coming off the desert in the east and heading toward the ocean)and is kinda just stalling everything.

I got off a cruise ship Sunday morning, and the county is on Fire.

EL - I will keep your family in my prayers and thought.

Waiting to hear on the rest of the San Diego Critters....

EL~Welcome home! It's great to have you back.

I've been keeping a watchful eye on the California fires, too, since my sister lives there. I saw on the news yesterday that the smoke can be seen from space. Scary.

Take care all!

Susan--Seattle was the stop-over for folks heading up to Anchorage for the mystery convention.

They sure didn't come all the way just to see me!

My, you've been busy....that's what keeps life interesting.
The winds in San Diego County have returned to their normal on-shore direction. We received a voluntary call to evacuate but so far haven't had to leave (packed and ready though). We are midway between the two major fires.
Keep on writing.

My daughter lives in San Diego. We just got back from a trip to New Engalnd 1 week before the fires started up. She has been evacuated from both house and office. The bad thing is that she was supposed to move this week from Rancho Bernardo to Poway. Both are right in the middle of the Witch fire. She doesn't know if she has either place to live or a job. Fortunately, she is safe though. That's the most important thing. Everything else is just "things". Naturally I've been in pins & needles worrying about her and wishing there was something I could do for her. But other than offer to pay her airfare to come home to Hawaii, there isn't anything I can do.

My fingers, toes, eyes, everything, is crossed hoping every one involved in these horrendous fires are safe. I heard on the radio this morning that several of the original fires were arson! Don't understand that mentality at all.

Glad to hear all is safe with your loved ones. I live in SoCal and today is the first day that we haven't had this wierd haze over the city. I think it's because we finally got light rain yesterday. Every day since the fires started, the sun has been this bright red color and at night, the full moon has a slightly orange cast to it.

Sounds like you've been super busy lately. I love Sedona and am mildly jealous that you got to visit. It's very beautiful there. A friend of my godmother is now preparing to move to Sedona.

Hope you are well and getting rest this weekend.

And, as a side note: The first romance I ever read was one of yours. Only His. You started my life long love of romance reading and writing. I'll always love you for that! :)

I'm glad your family is safe and the fires are dying down. So much devastation, for what?

Looking forward to reading the new book.
