Welcome to Running With Quills, your online newsletter designed to keep you up to date with what your favorite authors (that would be us) are doing throughout the year. Here you will find the release dates of our new books and get information about our backlists. We'll preview our cover art here long before the books hit the stores and we'll keep you informed about works-in-progress and special projects. You'll also receive advance notice of signings and appearances. From time to time we'll give you a peek at our worlds, tell you what we're reading, and introduce you to some new authors.

FAVORITE CHRISTMAS BOOKS

Hello, Quills!

I’m so excited to be here. Lori invited me to come over to play today and I have to take a moment to gush. I’m such a fan of the authors here. You gals rock the romance industry. :) Thank you for giving us such fabulous stories. :)

I began reading Lori’s books back when she first published for Harlequin Temptation. I searched high and low and found this early pic of us together at my first RWA National Conference in D.C. Horrible photo of me, but I was star-struck so who cares?

Luckily, the pics of us together have gotten a little better over the years. Here’s one of us last June at Lori Foster and Dianne Castell’s June Get Together. This is such a great event and if you haven’t attended yet, it’s an absolute MUST.

Over the years I’ve read every story Lori has released and can’t tell you how much I look forward to her books, but some of my all-time favorites have been her Christmas novellas. I love Christmas. Toss in a romance and I’m all yours. There’s just something about the season of love and hope and forgiveness that draws me in.

That’s why I’m so excited about my very first Christmas release, A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER (Harlequin Superromance), which hit the shelves November 6.

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER is the last of a trio of character-related stories set in southern Ohio and northern Kentucky, and features one of my favorite themes—amnesia. Can you imagine? It’s Christmas and you don’t know who you are?

After writing the first book in the series I received a lot of emails asking what happened to Jack, Joe’s little brother. When Jack roared out of town after graduation, where did he go? Why didn’t he contact his father again? How could he not believe in Joe’s innocence?

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the answers. Jack was mentioned twice in the book, no more. And then two things happened at once. The song Photograph by Nickelback received a lot of air-play and in the headlines was a tragic story I simply couldn’t get out of my mind. Time passed. And then my brain did what every writer’s brain does–what if Jack...

And so Jack’s story was born.

I hope you’ll look for A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER and play along with the contest running on my website. Also posted at
www.kaystockham.com is an excerpt, a book trailer and probably more information than you want to know about me.

And for those brave souls who post and tell us their *favorite* Christmas book/author, I’ll give away a copy of A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER in the hopes that, maybe, it'll become one of yours.

Thanks again!

Kay – off to get paper and pen so I’ll have more Christmas books!

Good Morning Kay!

I promise I'm not stalking you! LOL! I enjoyed you at RV yesterday and here you are this morning at another of my favorite sites. It's my lucky week!

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER is sitting on my coffee table, all ready for tonight's evening of Christmas reading. Around 9pm you'll find me snuggled on the couch with my favorite blanket, some hot chocolate (laced with Kahlua, of course), a dog on either side and your book. Can't wait to savor what's sure to be a wonderful story.

I love Christmas romances and would be hard pressed to pick just one as a favorite. That being said, one that stayed with me for a long time after I finished reading it was Comfort & Joy by Kristin Hannah. It's a wonderful, emotional story that I plan to re-read every Christmas and doubt I'll ever tire of.

Hi all!

Jolene, Santa Baby is one of my favorites as well. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Helen! Good to 'see' you!

Deb, I'll definitely be checking those out. I have a couple of them, but not all. Thanks for the list!

Emma, I've been reading a lot of Debbie M's books lately and love them. Very sweet.

PJ, good to see you again! LOL on stalking. Yeah, my little blog tour has taken me some places this week, no? Please let me know what you think of ACTR--and enjoy your reading time!

Morning all!
Kay, THANK YOU for guest blogging for me. I'm swamped in my next book and just couldn't pull myself away to think of an interesting blog. Your take on Christmas reading was inspiring! I do love Christmas stories. :-)

Those photos of us... egads! You look great, but me...LOL. In the one, I'm wearing our June "Reader & Author Get Together T-shirt," and that explains why I'm so sloppy. ;-)

Hugs to all!

Hi gals!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

Lori, you always look great. I'm the one who looks like a ghost. Yikes! That's my Black Irish coming out with my dark hair and paper-white skin. But, it was the first pic of us together and I had to share. Too funny. LOL

Elizabeth, who are your favorites? I LOVE Christmas stories so please share!

I love Christmas stories of all kinds, but I honestly can't say that I have a favorite - I love them all!

There's something about the holidays that opens everyone's heart, even if it's just a crack at first, to let the peace and love of the season in.

At the same time, it breaks my heart to think of how many are alone or without gifts for the most precious holiday of them all.

Let's not forget our shelters and food banks this holiday season - and after!!

Thanks Kay, for being here today!

There are lots of great Christmas romance books out there but my favorite Christmas book would have to be The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell. It's a childrens book but the message in it is for all people. Love love love it.

Thanks for stopping by, Laurie! You made a very good point. If everyone would pitch in and help out those in need, there wouldn't be hunger in the world.

Lisa, I've never read The Littlest Angel but will certainly look for it. Thanks for sharing!

LeeAnn, The Night Before Christmas is a must every Christmas Eve. Haven't read the other, though. There's another for my list!

My favorite Christmas romance is A Christmas Promise by Mary Balogh. Other favorites are, of course A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (I have about six different versions of it on film), and Dylan Thomas's A Child's Christmas in Wales, of which I have both the print version and an LP of Thomas himself reading it.

One of my literary ambitions has long been to write a sequel to the Dickens story (A Twelfth Night Roundelay?) set seven years later, in which we'd see what happens to everyone. My idea is that they'd all go to the country because of some sort of unfinished business involving some wicked deed by Jacob Marley. It would be all about country Christmas customs, and would wind up marrying off one of the Cratchit daughters (the one who has been keeping house for Scrooge) to a local squire, saving Marley's soul after all, and perhaps the death of Scrooge, full of years and honours and heading directly for Heaven. A Dickens-style edifying deathbed scene, in other words!

In Robert Neill's The Elegant Witch (AKA Mist Over Pendle, about the Lancashire witch trials in the early 17th century, there is a fine depiction of the somewhat rowdy celebration of the Twelve Days of Christmas in Yorkshire.

I’ve been trying all day to remember my favorite story, and I can’t remember either the title or the author. Sigh. It was about a single mother with a little boy, who was a waitress at a truck stop out west somewhere. There was a trucker who stopped by regularly and gave her and her son a ride in his truck back to the east coast to visit her family for Christmas, though he was a Grinch and a Scrooge himself. But he got so wrapped up in the little boy’s excitement, when he came back to pick them up and take them back home, he had his truck all lit up like Rudolph with scads of lights and presents and they ended up with their HEA.

I really like HEAs, they beat Real Life all to flinders.

I've always liked the Signet Regency Christmas and Valentine anthologies; I guess, since they were traditional Regencies, they aren't doing them any more.

And there is a VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS anthology from Signet that has a wonderful take on A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
