  • Welcome to Running With Quills, your online newsletter designed to keep you up to date with what your favorite authors (that would be us) are doing throughout the year. Here you will find the release dates of our new books and get information about our backlists. We'll preview our cover art here long before the books hit the stores and we'll keep you informed about works-in-progress and special projects. You'll also receive advance notice of signings and appearances. From time to time we'll give you a peek at our worlds, tell you what we're reading, and introduce you to some new authors.

Congratulations to Susan Andersen and Jayne Ann Krentz for ranking among Amazon.com Editors' Best of 2009 in Romance!

    ELIZABETH ON THE LOOSE

I just signed a new contract with my publisher, HarperCollins. Thanks to their patience and understanding, I'm two months into a sabbatical!

    I don't have a book due until October 1, 2009.

If I had Lori's emoticon skills, you'd see backflips, champagne fizzing, balloons floating, and smiley faces all over the place. But I don't, so you'll have to imagine those things...unless Celeste can drag some out of the ether. ;)

What am I going to do with the next ten months? Travel, clean closets, travel, edit my way-too-big library, travel, and READ. And travel--did I mention that?

That means I'll be popping in and out of Quills without warning. No set days. No twice-monthly blogs.

I'm not just being lazy. Really.

The places I like to travel don't have uplinks. I mean, what's the point of traveling if you do the same things you do at home?

But don't worry. I won't forget about y'all. I just won't be in touch as often.

I'm so excited for you, Elizabeth! Your fans (me included) will wait patiently for the next book, and in the meantime, when you can, tell us of your travels! I can't wait to hear where you've been and what you've seen.
What's on the agenda? Where are you hoping to go?
Will you be taking the boat!?

    Fun, fun.
    Enjoy!

Bon voyage, Elizabeth. Enjoy every minute of your down time.

Forget those closets. They'll just fill themselves up again the second you shut the door.

EL: That's it, "friend." It's coming toward six in the morning, I've been trying to catch the same idea since before five, and you come in here warbling about sabbaticals?

    It's over...

You have been working very hard over the last several years, so you deserve a break. Perhaps your travels will inspire you with ideas that will show up in a new book. But you will have at least one book (Blue smoke and mirrors?) coming out before Oct 2009, yes? Things already in process/submitted and waiting for the right release time? I'm going to have to develop a "methadone list" (thanks, Diana Gabaldon) to stave off the craving for EL works until you can get back in the groove. Kathy Kremer

    Oh, Boy!

Just think of the ideas that you will have for new books when you return to writing.

    Enjoy!

Your travels should include New Zealand if they can, beautiful scenery, perfect for some down time sabbatical. So glad for you you're taking some down time, so sad for us to have to wait so long for a new book, but then waiting never hurt anyone did it, just made the arrival so much sweeter! Have a great time away, looking forward to hearing about your travels, Sian (From NZ)

    Elizabeth,

I wish you well on your travels. Please share your adventures with us so we can live vicariously through you!

I brought some of your novels to my mother and convinced her to buy others. She is now a fan of yours. I love books, so I keep them. Don't mind passing them around, but I love to keep them so I can read them when I can.

I look forward to your blogs!

    Carrie

Thanks, everyone. I've been thinking about doing this for several years.

And there won't be a gap in new releases this year, because I've already finished BLUE SMOKE AND MURDER. 2009 will be the gap year, and I'll be back to work by then.

Yes, publishing is a funny business.

Hi. I tried to find out if Eric the Undefeated (from your medieval series: Untamed, Forbidden and Enchanted) has his own story, but I couldn't find a book about him. Could it be you've yet to write it? Thanks.

    Darlin',

This is such a good thing for you, I'm jumping up and down with you (at least, relatively speaking). I hope that the rainbows are brighter, the fish are biting, and the daily warpath recedes to just fighting with your navel lint. Yay for the sabbatical!!!! You have more than earned it.....
