Welcome to Running With Quills, your online newsletter designed to keep you up to date with what your favorite authors (that would be us) are doing throughout the year. Here you will find the release dates of our new books and get information about our backlists. We'll preview our cover art here long before the books hit the stores and we'll keep you informed about works-in-progress and special projects. You'll also receive advance notice of signings and appearances. From time to time we'll give you a peek at our worlds, tell you what we're reading, and introduce you to some new authors.

THE THIRD CIRCLE is out!

Just a quick note to let you know that the latest book in my Arcane Society series, THE THIRD CIRCLE, is now in stores. By the way, if you're a fan of the contemporary novels in the series, here's your chance to find out how the Society got into the matchmaking business.

I also wanted to remind you that I'll be doing the following signings in the Seattle area. For those of you who can't make it to any of the events, remember, you can reserve one from the Seattle Mystery Bookshop if you act fast. I'll be signing there this Tuesday (April 29) and I'll inscribe your copy at that time. The delightful store staff will then mail it to you. Makes a great Mother's Day gift!

I just finished it this weekend. Another wonderful job Jayne. I adopted you at my library so every book you write I buy for the library and then I read it first. I'm already waiting for your next one.

Cheryl: I'm so glad you enjoyed it. By the way, I've never heard of the "adopt an author" program you mentioned. Very interesting and rather creative way for libraries to augment their always cash-strapped budgets. Thanks for adopting me!

I loved THE THIRD CIRCLE! What a great idea to also send a signed copy to my mom for Mother's Day! Just got off the phone to Bill at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop. Wonderful people to deal with. Great gift idea! Thanks, Jayne!

Read it this weekend (would have done so sooner but the hateful walmart did not carry the book --- the nerve) and it is fabulous.

Loved the humor and passion in Thaddeus and Leona. It was fun to visit again with Adam, Mr. Pierce, Gabe, and Venetia as well. Do we see interesting character traits shared by Caleb and the darling "DA" Fallon? Those Jones men.

EL: Sure hope you can make one of the Saturday signings! I'm doing them with a couple of other authors, including Stella. We could add you to the lineup!

Karen: Thanks for the invitation to Klamath Falls!

EG: I'll look forward to signing the book for your mom tomorrow at Seattle Mystery Bookshop.

Lynn: Fallon Jones is a direct descendent of Caleb Jones so, yep, they share some similar character traits. As it happenhs, I'm writing Caleb's story as we speak...

And Fallon's story? Where is that scheduled in the line-up? Love to see those Jones men fall like a row of dominoes ...

I loved THE THIRD CIRCLE! I had to wait until Thursday to buy it, but it was read before I went to bed on Friday!

Great read! Looking forward to the next installment of the Arcane series.

Kim: Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed The Third Circle!

This is a super book--how unusual, coming from AQ!

Looking forward to our signings the next two Saturdays, Jayne. Cherry Adair and Yazmine Gaelenorn will be with us. Should be a spirited party!

Got it yesterday afternoon--read it last night! Good stuff--what else is new?

Any chance Fallon Jones might wind up with Elizabeth from WHITE LIES? I liked her.

And it's time for another cat; we've been through dog and dust bunny.

BTW: I noticed that your copy editor kept replacing "spoor" with "spore" in the first chapter or so. Someone with a devout belief in the inerrancy of Spellcheck, no doubt...

BTW: much more legible WV letters. Did someone take action?

I'll be pouting all day because I live to far away to make one of Jayne's signings. How cool would that be?
Next year, I am DEFINITELY going to RWA (and hoping that the other Quills are going) so I can get some updated photos with everyone.

Have fun at the signings, Jayne! The book sounds amazing, as always!

Lori: We'll have a Quill reunion next year at RWA!

Tal: I'll make a note of the spoor problem. Got a bad feeling that it was my mistake, though, not the copyeditor (although it would have been nice if she had caught it!!!).

Oh, goodie, I can hardly wait until the library gets theirs. I should be amongst one of the first to get one of the dozen-odd copies. I'm 4 on the hold list.

Tal, I often wonder how much proof-reading is actually done these days. I came across books by one author where I found a constant repetition of a similar mistake: preposition + subj. pronoun + and + other names. Either the author makes all these egregious mistakes or some eager-beaver proofreader who has the grade-school dictum "my friend and I (went)" firmly lodged in her mind. We learned that so that we wouldn't write "Me and my friend went..."

Now I'm wondering where "spores" might come into the story.

10:27 AM
Blogger Ranurgis said...

Oops, now it sounds as if I blame Jayne for the mistake. Not so.

I remember talking to an author at the Toronto RT conference about a mistake in one of her books. She immediately knew what I was talking about. She told me it was correct when she sent it in, got it back to be corrected and put in the correct way again, got it back to be corrected again and just gave up. And the reader ends up blaming the author. I have learned not to do that any more.

However, some of these proofreaders should have their credentials examined. Yeah, and who'd check mine. I'd love the job. But then, we do all make mistakes.

Blogger talpianna said...

Ranurgis, spores don't come in at all. The context is a para-hunter talking about psychic traces as the spoor of an intruder.

And, as A/E has pointed out more than once, often when corrected proofs are sent in, the next set has other errors that crept in when the previous corrections were made!

Jayne: If we can forgive you for "Artemis," we can forgive you for ANYTHING!

And would a Quill reunion be a porcupine party?

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I sat down as soon as I got it and didn't put it down until I finished it all...thank heavens my husband just chuckled as HE fixed dinner!

Now I have to wait for the next book in the series...Running Hot. What a nice way to ring in the new year.

Thanks,
Pam

Tal: Thanks! You're right, if I can survive "Artemis", I can survive anything. For those who watched WILD, WILD WEST and are still baffled, "Artemis" is actually the female form of the name. Thanks to Tal I managed to get it changed to the masculine form -- Artemas -- for the paperback edtion.

Michiganmom: Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know that you enjoyed The Third Circle! I really appreciate it.

Oh, and by the way, the book in which the multi-talented Artemas appeared was WICKED WIDOW

Thanks, Tal, I think I misread your comment. I guess I really should take the time to read "all" the comments before I add mine. In the last few days I've had so much pain in my right arm that I don't seem to have much patience for anything, not even reading. Arggh.

Well...I was going to make a comment about Jayne teasing us with Caleb but not giving us his story but as she said she is writing it now, I guess I won't. Can't wait for the next story. It was good to see all the familar faces in the new book.

Loved it, thanks Jayne for another outstanding read.

Hmm my prev comment seems to have gotten 'et. Anyways...I just wanted to mention that you've been mentioned by Lois McMaster Bujold. (The two of you are my fave authors, plus Joan Wolf.) I posted a link, but here's another, an interview:
