Jayne Gets Abducted by Aliens

DARK LIGHT, the next book in my Ghost Hunter series, won't go on sale until August 28 but the cover art just showed up so I thought I'd give you all a preview here.

Gotta say, I really had fun with this one. The heroine of DARK LIGHT is Sierra McIntyre. She's an intrepid reporter for a tabloid newspaper, The Curtain (slogan: Go Behind the Curtain for the Truth).

Sierra is on the trail of a really big expose. Thanks to her, The Curtain has been selling a lot of newspapers lately with headlines like Guild Conceals Discovery of Alien Lab. Needless to say, the Ghost Hunters Guild would rather she did not continue to report the conspiracy.

Sierra's investigation lands her an interview with the powerful new boss of the local Guild, John Fontana. He agrees to give her some deep background about the conspiracy but only if she enters into a Marriage of Convenience with him.

Sierra goes for the deal. She's thinking about lots of screaming headlines such as: Mystery Man in Charge of Crystal Guild: What is he Hiding?

Fontana is thinking more along the lines of: Couple Goes Through Secret Hunter Wedding Night Ritual in Alien Temple of Love.

And then there's Elvis, Sierra's dust bunny companion. You didn't think I could do a story like this without an Elvis sighting, did you?

Hope you enjoy it!

Sounds yummy. And you're telling us this more than two and half months before we can get it?!?

A good-looking young(?) guy on the cover. Is he wearing a necklace? Great ambiance in the swirls of color. Are you stepping into our contemporary society with the headlines in this one? It definitely sounds like fun.

Anyway, I was one of the first people to get The Third Circle when it finally showed up at our library. As always, I really enjoyed it, with all the little digs and slightly sarcastic remarks. And that curmudgeonly Caleb Jones! With all the other readers, I can only ask, "When do we get HIS story?"

Ok, I tried to get italics. But it didn't work. Can anyone give me pointers?

Yes! I really enjoy your head to head romances with strong heroine vs strong hero. They always have completely separate agendas, but get through it to the same conclusion-love. I can't wait!

Oh, and I love dust bunnies

RANURGIS: Don't worry, I'm writing Caleb's story as we speak!

EG: Like I said, when you're talking the tabloid press -- "best investigative reporting on the planet" as someone named Jones remarks in Men in Black -- you're talking Elvis.

LYNNE THOMAS: Thanks and I hope you enjoy this particular dust bunny!

This sounds GREAT! great cover, great premise. And just in time for the kids-back-to-school slowdown.

Not that I have any kids in that age bracket.

But still. I'm just sayin'.

And Tammy, you can actually buy it two days later and viola! It's on your Sept book budget instead of your August!!

STELLA: Glad you like the cover -- you've got a great eye for covers that work so I am reassured.

JACKIETOO: Thanks for the interest in RUNNING HOT. It will be out next January. Just so you know, the first chapter will be in the back of DARK LIGHT.

BRANDY: Thanks for putting DARK LIGHT on your buy list. I appreciate that.

LYNNE W: Yeah, I sorta like that purple and green combo, myself. Wish he didn't look quite so youthful, though...

SUSAN: Brilliant observation about how the book could be pushed back in September's budget.

KATHERINE: A 24 hour train trip? Now that's an adventure.

Adventure indeed since the Coast Starlight from Seattle to Salinas frequently runs between 5 & 11 hours late. Has a great freshly restored circa 1940's lounge car that makes a wonderful place to hang out drink, eat, read and watch the scenery go by.

I CAN'T do that - LOL

Believe me I'll figure something out - I'll probably pre-order Kenyon's and Jayne's and one other then pick the others up later.

And if I didn't mention it before Jayne - GREAT cover!

KATHERINE: I hear you. Frank and I did the Seattle to Chicago run and back once. That was all it took to let one know that one should never take the train if one has to be in a certain city on a specific day. But otherwise, it is very cool. Are you getting a private compartment or doing the chair thing? We sprung for the private compartment. There was one problem in the middle of the night when I got up to use the facility. Turned on the shower by mistake.

Jayne,
Absolutely their loss!!!! Your work is in the top 5 of authors I buy without looking at the cover or reading the back. And I have NEVER been disappointed, in any genre. The writing, the characters that engage my interest immediately, their strength, their humor all of it. Anyone who misses that, too bad. These are gems too! And it feels good to have a list of authors whose books you know you can count on for a truly amazing and satisfying story.
Thank you for giving us those amazing stories!!!

Hi Jayne
Private compartment and I've had the shower vs toilet encounter as well. For this particular trip I've got the luxury of not being on a deadline, so some or several hours one way or another is no big deal. The train is a lot more civilized than flying, it just takes a different mindset to adjust to moving thru life at a slower pace. Besides it gives me lots of time to read all of my favorite authors.

In a certain inexpensive hotel in Cairo, which, like many of its ilk, has unusual and inventive plumbing, my husband once encountered a showerhead deliberately installed directly over the loo. I suppose the multi-tasking that comes to mind would save a little time in the morning for late risers.

AgTigress: That shower/loo arrangement your husband encountered in Cairo definitly sounds as though it was designed by the same folks who did the AmTrak private compartments!

The premise of this book just seems to scream "spew alert - don't read this story & drink liquids at the same time". Did that with your first in the "Harmony" series, and yeah, made a mess - in the car - spewed juice all over the windshield. I love that you make me laugh out loud with these stories.

Interesting premise, marriage of convenience. She ought to know better, heh heh. No one gets the better of the Ghost Hunters Guild.

Love the colors on the cover, that's almost the shade of green I've pictured for the ghosts. The guy is a bit young for a boss, you're right.

Ah - finally I figure out just where to find the GOOD stuff. Off to the bookstore to pick up the latest, plus a couple of items in paperback for reading /travel / loaner copies.

Looking forward to August and the release of Dark Light - we'll be off in the lake country of Central KY, so I may have to do some serious planning ahead to make it to 'town' to pick this one up on it's release date.

Of course, I could wait a couple of days until we will actually BE in 'town', but then my dear one would be celebrating his birthday watching me read, LOL.

Thanks for all the work, Jayne - you are one of the few who write so well that I wear out my reading copies over the years. Splendid fun, and lately quite thought provoking - keep 'em coming!
