JAYNE with another excerpt from DARK LIGHT

First, those of you who are riding out the fury of Hurricane Gustav (including our brilliant webmaster, Cissy Hartley of www.writerspace.com) please know that we are all thinking of you. We've got all my fingers and toes crossed. You folks who live in hurricane country have guts!

On another note, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who bought and enjoyed DARK LIGHT. I'm so glad so many of liked the book because I had a lot of fun writing it.

By the way, fans of my ARCANE SOCIETY novels might be interested to know that the first chapter of the next one, RUNNING HOT, is included in the back of DARK LIGHT. Check out that cover for RUNNING HOT! I love it. I think it is my favorite of all my covers ever.

Meanwhile, here's another taste of DARK LIGHT.

"I did not come here to talk about myself," Sierra said. "This was supposed to be an interview with you.” She closed her notebook and slipped it into her purse. “But it appears that isn’t going to happen so I might as well be on my way.”

“You surprise me," Fontana said. "I didn’t think you’d give up so easily.”

She got to her feet. “I don’t mind wasting your time but I’m not real keen on wasting my own.”

    “Sit down, Miss McIntyre.”

    “Why?”

"Because I am, as the old saying goes, about to make you an offer you can’t refuse.”

"Are you threatening me?” she asked .

“I hope you won’t take it that way.”

    "And if I refuse?”

    He smiled. “You won’t.”

    “Why won’t I?”

“Because I’m going to give you a shot at a real exclusive, the biggest story of your career.”

    "Sure.”

“You don’t trust me, do you?” he said.

“No farther than I could throw you.”

He watched her with a steady, unwavering look. “I’m dead serious.”

It was the word dead that aroused all her journalistic instincts. Okay, maybe he was serious.

“This would be a guild story?” she asked warily.

    "Yes.”

"What, exactly do I have to do to get this hot exclusive?"

    "Marry me."

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again, those of you in Gustav's path, please know we are all thinking and worrying about you.

    Sincerely,

    Jayne

Got the book, already done reading it. Wonderful read, as always. I love the last scene of dear Elvis. He does do a good song. LOL The addition of an excerpt of RUNNING HOT has got panting for it. Can't wait.

My copy arrived on Thursday; I finished it Friday. Another winner! You combined the characters, the story, the setting, and the banter perfectly to create a work that satisfied my Jayne Castle craving--until next time. I loved the line about the psychic plane happy dance. I also appreciated the "subtle" references to the Arcane Society.

Jayne, thank you SO much for naming a character for me! (LOL) Please continue to do what you do so well.

    Gratefully,
    Kay

All here thinking about our friends and neighbors to the south, too.

Dark Light: one of your absolute best. Just when I think you can't top yourself, you do! Rock and rez indeed!

STELLA: Thanks! And the same to you. Your books always give me an adrenalin rush.

CHERYEB: Glad you enjoyed DARK LIGHT. Have to admit I had a lot of fun with the Elvis stuff. Got a little carried away there at the end but, so what. It's Elvis, after all.

KAY: I had a wonderful time with "your" character! She was terrific. Like her namesake.

CHRISTINA: Thanks so much. I am really enjoying this series so it is a huge relief to know that there are others out there who are actually enjoying reading it!

I just picked up my copy of Dark Light when I went to town this morning, along with Lori's newest L.L. Foster title and a couple of other books I've wanted: Lori's Watson Brothers and Angie Fox's book, The Accidental Demon Slayer. (we have the same agent) I get to start Dark Light tonight, as soon as I'm through writing for the day, and I can't wait! The hard part now is...oh, my! It's already five! Work day is officially over. I know I'm going to love this book!

Jayne, I read Dark Light today and loved it! I really loved the things that "a man just knows." That was hilarious! And Elvis was the best dust bunny yet.

Already read it twice, Jayne. It just keeps getting better. And the excerpt from RUNNING HOT has my little pink tongue hanging out. But when will we get Caleb's and Fallon's books?

Incidentally, also just reread (yet again--16th time?) SIZZLE AND BURN, and caught something you might want to correct for the paperback edition. In Chapter 2, it's mentioned that Fallon Jones has dubbed the bad guys "Nightshade"; but later in the book that turns out to be their own name for themselves--perhaps this can be co-ordinated.

Will there be more cats in RUNNING HOT, since the heroine likes them? I think they are required for librarians, and in fact for libraries.

I have to say that the people in the gulf coast area need our thoughts and prayers. Many are not completely rebuilt and recovered from Katrina and now along comes Gustav! Also, Hanna is headed toward the southeastern US coast and some of the most beautiful tidal marshes and beaches in the world (not to mention many of my friends and other good people). We moved away from coastal Georgia a couple of years ago, but we still love it.

Now on to DARK LIGHT, I bought it and read it in the same day, and all I can say is rez on Elvis, I'm so glad you made it through the curtain! I loved this book. THEN, Jayne gives us a sneak peak of her next book, RUNNING HOT, and blows me away. I needed a cool rag for my bodice after reading that excerpt. Whew! We may not get a real summer in Seattle, but we just let Jayne and her friends heat it up for us.

Keep writing, and I'll keep reading,

KATE DOUGLAS: Thanks for dropping in for a visit! And thanks for picking up a copy of DARK LIGHT. For those of you who enjoy brilliantly done erotica, be sure to check out Kate's website, www.katedouglas.com She's the best.

MICHELLE M: So glad you got the humor in the book. Not everyone does. I treasure readers who "get it", believe me.

DARLA: Glad you enjoyed Elvis, the dust bunny. I had a lot of fun writing him.

TAL: Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed DARK LIGHT and thanks very much for catching the slip-up with Nightshade. I thought I'd caught all those references. I'll get on it right away. Hopefully, in time for the paperback

LYNNE THOMAS: You're right about summner here in Seattle. Blink and you missed it. Glad you liked the teaser for RUNNING HOT.

ELIZABETH GUEST: Thanks, I really do love that RUNNING HOT cover. I'm very excited about it.

Well, I certainly didn't intend to stay up half the night last night, but I couldn't put the book down! Loved it--and it was exactly what I needed after a really difficult week. (though it would have been nice to get to bed before one a.m.) Thank you JAYNE!!! Dark Light is wonderful! Loved the references to the Arcane Society, and can't wait for RUNNING HOT. That cover is gorgeous!

Picked up the book on the "lay-down" date and couldn't put it down. I particularly loved Elvis' ballon ride at the tabloid office. And the Alien Temple of Love, and... and... absolutely love it! When's the next Harmony book due??

Also, I'm eager for Running Hot!!!

Okay, I see I definitely need to make a run to the book store.

Plus, oh, man, that is one seriously great cover on Running Hot. They don't always get a guy who looks like a guy, you know? They sure did on this one.

And the title? Wish I'd thought of it first. :)

SUSAN: Thanks. This really is my favorite cover, ever. Don't know why it is that I've had so many covers with guys who don't look like they are even old enough to vote!

LOL...don't get started on covers. I write characters that range from thirties to sixties. My cover for Wolf Tales VI looks like "high schoolers in love." Very sad...gorgeous cover, but not apropos at all! RUNNING HOT has a MAN on the cover. Oh. My.

But that cover is HOT HOT HOT!

I can sort of understand why people buy a book just by looking at the cover.
