After Happily Ever After - or Romance, Pets, and Chicken Wire.

    Photobucket

Today I get to introduce to you Catherine Mann, a truly wonderful author and a really lovely lady. I met Cathy eons ago while conferencing and after reading some of her books, I became a fan. She writes from the heart, with hunky heroes and real emotion. I can guarantee you'll enjoy hers tories, and her company, as much as I do.

Naturally, like me, and many of you, Cathy is an animal lover. I LOVE the blog she's sharing with us.

Let's give Catherine Mann a big, warm Quillster welcome!

    Greetings, everyone!

Many thanks to Lori Foster for inviting me to stop by and share about my September release, HIS EXPECTANT EX from Silhouette Desire. This reunion romance includes a couple of my favorite themes:

**Keeping romance alive in a long term relationship.

    **Pets.

You may be wondering how the two of those relate.
That brings me to a story about my own dear handsome hubby of twenty-one years.

My husband is a rare gem in that he always remembers my birthday, our anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc., even when the Air Force may have sent him thousands of miles away.

I do so enjoy when the delivery guy shows up with a surprise bouquet of wildflowers or my flyboy hubby struts in the door with a box of Godivas. But the longer we're married, the more I realize his best gifts can be less pricey and surprisingly unusual. My favorite ever gift from my husband?

    Chicken wire.

Yes, you read that right. I should probably backtrack a bit to explain.

Last year, I got a puppy, an adorable Boston Terrier/pug/beagle/mystery breed pound rescue named Sadie. We had a general idea of her adult size based on the vet’s guess, and we knew she would be on the small side. However, we never counted on her being so little and lean she could bolt right through the pickets on our pool fence.

Yipes! She quickly found every porch in the neighborhood with pet food. (Hey, did I mention she’s brilliant as well as adorable?!)

I increased walks with Sadie to drain her energy, while waiting for her to grow big enough to enjoy our large yard without escaping. After 6 months I feared it would never happen.

Replacing the fence was out of the question. The fence is big and pricey. My husband fretted over options. He really, really prides himself on having a pristine yard. One of our neighbors suggested weaving chicken wire through the pickets.

    My husband visibly paled.

We waited another month for her to grow. No luck. I continued to walk my feet off in cold, rainy weather with Sadie (while feeding her very frequently and praying “Grow, puppy, grow!”)

A few days later, I readied Sadie for her walk – HUGE storm clouds looming. I stepped outside and found my husband. On his knees. Weaving chicken wire through the white pool fence.

Bless his big heart, he worked in the rain to finish before he had to leave that afternoon for a two week trip. And yes, the chicken wire worked. Our fence has been Sadie proofed with - as my husband calls it - poultry fencing!

What a gift! What a guy!

How about you? I would love to hear your stories about unique/unusual/surprising romantic gifts or gestures.

I also have a new page on my website devoted to
PRECIOUS FUR BABIES with photos of my pets as well as pictures of some of my favorite authors with their pets (including Lori Foster, Suzanne Brockmann and more.)

Do you have pets? A cute or moving pet story to share?

I look forward to hearing from you!

    Hugs,

    Cathy ;-)

    Welcome to RWQ, Cathy!
Sadie is, of course, adorable…as is your Flyboy HHP (hot husband person). Romantic gestures? My favorite wasn’t a pricey gift either, as a matter of fact. It happened during the time when myself and the then-boyfriend of two years were dating bi-coastally (he in Portland, OR and me in Cleveland, OH). I flew myself and my two kids out to Portland to visit Chris and his family for a week. He proceeded to take us to Cannon Beach, on the coast. As we were sitting on the bluffs, he talked to the kids about how much he loved me and, since I was their Mom first, wanted to know if they thought it’d be a good idea for him to move to Ohio to be with all three of us. It was romantic and thoughtful and Cannon Beach will always be one of the most beautiful places in the world to me.

I look forward to reading HIS EXPECTANT EX and picking up your backlist J Thanks for the introduction, RVing Lori! Happy Friday!

And I thought I had the only romantic guy in the world! My husband is the best grandpa to two terrific little girls. The 16 mo old doesn't even look back at her parents when he comes to take her on one of his adventures. She just heads for the car, waving her little hand. He has always been the one to come up with the best adventures and fun trips for all of us.
I have never read Cathy's work before, but I will now. Thanks for stopping by, Cathy!

Hi Deb and Lynne! Thanks so much for your comments! Great to hear from you both. Isn't there something so special about a man who can be tender with children? I still get teary-eyed when I think of my hubby singing the Jimmy Buffett song "Little Miss Magic" to our oldest daughter the day we bought her home from the hospital. So sweet and sentimental!

Of course he also taught our whole crew of 4 kiddos to belt out Buffett's "Fins" - complete with their hands on their heads like shark fins. ;-)

Thanks again for coming out to say howdy and share... And many thanks to Lori for inviting me to hang out with the Running With Quills folks!

    Hugs,
    Cathy

Holy crap. THAT IS SO WEIRD! My HHP sang "Little Miss Magic" and played acoustic guitar for my daughter before her first high school dance. *sniff*

We're big Buffett fans in our house, too... both kids know the whole box set...lol... AND my license plate is FINZ LFT... Ha.

How can we help but love these kinda guys?

Welcome to RWQ. One of the best gifts my husband gave me was a phone call. He called, out of the blue, on day while he was at work. He wanted me to know that he didn't feel he told me often enough, how proud of me he is, for sticking to my workout routine. What a guy!!
    Thanks for the blog Cathy.

Cathy, welcome! And all I can say about your hubby is..."Awwwwwwww."

I grew up with dogs and an everchanging plethora of odd animals. (turtles, frogs, a duck, once even a bat--the list goes on) But at heart, I'm a cat woman. I have two: male littermates that I call The Boys. Mojo is a gray who looks to have a generous portion of Russian Blue in him. (his coloring, the delicate triangular face, etc, etc) He looks like he should be lying around on pillows like a little prince, and in truth he loves doing just that. But he's a fierce hunter and mice and lizards everywhere tremble when they hear his name. His brother Boo is a huge black and white tuxedo. HE looks like he should be kicking ass and taking names, but he's a lover and gets his butt kicked on a regular basis by neighborhood cats who aren't quite as sweet. *g*

Loved your pet page! What fun. My Boo's feet are almost as large as Joanne Rock's cat's--but without the interesting extra toes. :)

    Great topic, Catherine. :)

Mine isn't romantic because it involves my brother. However, I have a dog who is 15, she is a shepherd/terrier mix. Last winter, I realized she had lost her vision and was nearly blind. This posed a lot of problem when it came to letting the dog outside to use the bathroom; she was used to being able to going down the steps of my house and being able to do her business and come right back.

The solution? My brother built a ramp off my doorstep. It is quite impressive and is fenced in at the bottom with some decorative fencing. I can take my dog outside, she uses the bathroom and comes back up on her own steam.

It was wonderful to see. Before the ramp was built, my dog's health was failing and I thought she only had a small amount of time left. Since then? She has a spark that was missing. It warms my heart.

hi cathy welcome I cant wait to read your book and will go look for others you have written too! we have a wonderful used book store here that let you trade and she has a bout a billion older books that are usually just what you are looking for.

My husband use to be romantic and do little things I think he got old? I dont know he doesnt want to do much now though which is probably why I read so much LOL I dont care too much about material things except my computer has to work and I have to have books to read there are several weeks where I reread the best books ever ;)

as for pets I have 5 cats all in the house and well its down from 9 so I think I am doing pretty good! most of my friends call me the cat lady cause if you have to get rid of it sigh.. I will take it I just cant stand it apparently LOL mostly I name them weird names like purple, bud, guido, little guy and butt muffin, which is their claim to fame besides that I grow them big here most of my cats weigh over 15 pounds I dont know why they dont eat all day but they sure to gain alot of weight. anyway didnt check out your page yet since I just got here this morning I dont get on the computer on fridays as I work all day.

    Hello, everybody!

How fun to log on and see all of these lovely comments! What a great way to kick off my weekend. :-) It's also uplifting reading about the thoughtful gestures from loved ones. Isn't it amazing how a simple phone call or home repair can make us feel special?! And Kris, I have to say that in my opinion, keeping the computer running around here is considered to be hugely romantic! (Because if my internet isn't working right, I'm a very, very crabby lady. ;-)

Oh my goodness, Susan! A bat!?! You sure have had a wealth of pets. My oldest son wanted a lizard once - a type that grew up to 6 ft long. He wanted to keep it in the attic in a bathtub. We did have to tell him no on that one. =8-O

And many thanks to all of you who are picking up copies of HIS EXPECTANT EX! I really appreciate it!!

    Happy Reading~~
