JAYNE PRESENTS: THE WOMEN OF www.romancenovel.tv

Jayne, here, to introduce Maria and Marisa, the ladies who created www.romancenovel.tv, an entertaining and truly unique online destination for those of us who love romance. If you haven't checked out the site, be sure to do so. They've got video interviews and guest blogs from all of your favorite authors and lots, lots more.

    Maria
: Yes, we’re identical twins. We were born four minutes apart and I have been the ‘bossy’ one from the start. Over the years, however, Marisa has learned all the wonderful traits of bossiness, so in that respect we’ve become a lot a like.

We’ve been best friends forever. You have no idea how wonderful that is. We’ve never had to do anything alone. We started the first day of school together, made new friends together, and had some very daring childhood adventures together. Having each other to lean on in new situations gave us that little extra confidence I don’t otherwise think we would have had.

When our paths went in different directions during and after college, we still stayed in close touch. About a decade ago we began working together in television production. While we didn’t live together, we lived in the same town which allowed us to commute together into Manhattan. Each day I would find Marisa with the latest romance novel in her hands. She couldn’t be disturbed and if you spoke to her, she would give you a dirty look. After all, she was doing the one thing that gave her enormous pleasure, reading. One day, I ran out of something to read, and she gave me a romance book. I was hooked. From that moment on riding the bus to and from work was one long pleasurable experience; after all we had our characters with us.

The funny thing is Marisa and I don’t agree on many things. While we’re closer than two pieces of dirt wedged in a corner, we have completely opposite tastes. From clothing to hair color and from movies and TV shows to music. The one thing we mostly agree on is romance books. In fact if Marisa likes a book, I’m sure to love it. That’s one of the reasons we started Romance Novel TV – it was something we could both unequivocally agree on – it combined our passion for television production with romance books. And we now find ourselves working more closely than ever on something we both really love. We don’t always come at things from the same place – but the great thing is we are always open to discussion. We divide the work evenly and we each have our separate strengths.

There are days when we laugh so hard we can’t breathe and then there are those days when we’re both so tired we can’t speak. But we share the good and the bad and we get up each day to face the challenges knowing that we’re both jumping off the cliff together.

The thing is, we couldn’t imagine not being together, working together and basically talking to each other on a daily basis. All the while we have our own sets of friends and family to keep us busy, busy, busy. But the one thing we can count on from each other, is honesty, caring, a spirit of fun and a general sense that whatever the other endeavors to do, we’ll be right behind the other. For us there is no greater feeling than to have someone around that cares. It’s girlfriend time, different than a husband, a boyfriend or a significant other. With us it’s always BFF time.

Marisa: Maria – you said it all.

How about you – is there someone special in your life that knows everything about you? Someone you share your secrets with? Or someone you go to when you just need a friend?

Thanks, ladies, for dropping by and meeting with us. I went to your site and now it is in my favorites right under RWQ. That means I liked it...a lot.

The person who knows (almost) everything? my daughter. She's 35 and very open and wise, so I go to her to bounce things around and she comes to me for the same reason. We drink a little wine, trash some men, eat some chocolate, an generally solve the world's problems.

    Keep rockin'

Woohoo, RNTV in the house!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist :)

I would have to say my secret keeper is my best friend Beth. We meet in 8th grade (which was AGES ago!) and are still thick as ever. In fact, we just has a gals day out on Saturday -- went to lunch, movie, and then ice cream. I have giggled so much since the last time we got together. We have been through so much -- high school, college, boyfriends, marriage, children, everything.

Good morning everyone! First - thanks so much Jayne and the rest of the fabulous authors here at RWQ for having Maria and I as your guests. We're really thrilled to on 'the same page' as some of our favorite authors.

I had the great good fortune to meet Jayne when we interviewed her last year and I was shaking in my boots. I'm still a 'fan girl' at heart and meeting her for the first time, after devouring her books for years, was a true highlight for me. BUT - Jayne was so terrific! It was a hundred and ten degrees in the room where we interviewed her - we were all sweating buckets - but she just smiled and continued to answer my questions. Her graciousness blew me away. That and her incredibly illuminating and intelligent responses. So - yeah, it's really great to be here.

Lynne, Thank you so much for your kind words - we'll be happy to see you over at RNTV when you're not here at RWQ. Ooh, sounds like a country western song. RNTV at RWQ all day long.

Maria and I have an older sister, Claudia and she's terrific. She's also one of our best friends. And the three of us also get together, sans husbands, and drink a little wine, laugh out loud and try to solve the worlds problems. Some of my favorite evenings out are girls nights. We're lucky the 'guys' understand that when the sisters are together it's all about us.

Krisb and Deb - husbands can be best friends. That's something Maria knows all about. Me? I'm working on it.

Krisb - you'll have to ask Maria about getting her husband to read a romance novel - she actually got him to do it, AND he liked it. Now when we're sitting around doing programming for RNTV he makes helpful suggestions and even cuts out articles from newspapers he thinks might be helpful. He's also an editor so he's helps with editing the interviews. He's learning a lot about romance novels, the authors who write them and people who read them. I always say, it's never too late to learn.

Good morning! Thanks to the wonderful authors at RWQ for having us.

Marisa is right - one day I had a romance book on the table and my husband picked it up, read it, and enjoyed it. Who would have guessed it?

Anonymous - aren't mother/daughter relationships just the best! When my mother lived closer we would make dates to go shopping. But who can really shop before you've quenched your thirst? We'd stop at a nearby restaurant and have a glass of wine and chat for hours. Before we knew it - whatever we 'had to buy' didn't seem so important.

Welcome Maria and Marisa! You ladies are looking lovely this Monday morning. I'm a regular at romancenovel.tv and I echo the invitation to come on over and check us out. We have a lot of fun! Today is Mystery Author day with a prize up for grabs - the perfect time to stop by and say hello.

My best girlfriend is Debbie and she holds a whole lot of my secrets. We met when we were assigned to the same project at work (over 20 years ago) and became fast friends. We have a very close bond, so much so that even though we live in different states we often can sense when the other needs us. It's spooky but has happened way too many times for me to discount it. We're only four months apart in age so while we didn't grow up together we do share many of the same memories. I think we were destined to meet and be best friends forever.

Hey guys, it's so cool to see you over here! I stop at RNTV several times just about everyday, and can always get something out of it.

I've always been one to keep more to myself, but there are very special people in my life that have gotten me through some crazy times, and we've had years of shared fun and laughter (and drinks!) together. As I get older I notice I am opening up more with them. It's a wonderful thing to have people in your life who will love you no matter what.

Hi Jayne - Thanks for asking. Well, basically, we're just a couple of girls who LOVE romance books and the women who write them. So our site is devoted to the readers who love romance.

We've got lots of videos of author interviews we've done over the year -- and they can be found on our "Video" page. You'll find plenty of book reviews written by Marisa and I and seven incredible reviewers who love romance.

Each week we have contests because we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to give away books.

And, we blog every day about life, romance, and anything we're thinking about.

Finally, we've always got some news and opinions on our home page, because we're filled with opinions.

And - we're in the process of re-designing our website. The logo you have up for us today is part of that re-design. We're planning to be live with our new design by November 1st.

Jayne, Jayne, Jayne - you are being too polite, tell the people the real story - We were sweating buckets and you smiled the WHOLE time!

Ah, www.romancenovel.tv, or as we often refer to it - RNTV - is a place that combines our passions.
We have lots of fun things going on there.

We have video interviews with authors which we love to do. Maria and I get to meet some amazing authors. We also have video segments of book signings, behind the scenes at publishing houses, some romance readers conventions. We're actually going to shoot the NJ RWA convention this month. We also have behind the scenes and some Twin Talk Videos that are just Maria and I talking about - well - the things we'd normally talk about. Like me telling Maria I think her iPhone needs to be surgically removed from her body.

We also have lots of book reviews written by our fabulous reviewers. We Love to pimp books at our site.

We have book excerpts and recommendations.

We also have a daily blog and at least 2 or 3 times a week we have guest authors who blog as well as written interviews with authors.

We have contests, games and prizes. Today we're doing Mystery Author - one of my favorites. Try to guess who the author is by asking questions and win an Amazon Gift Certificate.

So everyday is something new fun, exciting. New authors come by every week.
OH, and we're re-designing the site so in November we'll have a whole new look and colors.

Maria, did I leave anything out?

Marisa, meant to respond to your post on my pretty boys blog but it was one of those weekends. Kevin McKidd--isn't he the guy who was in Trainspotting? I'm not sure I've seen him in anything more recent. I hardly ever get to the movies.

Great blog and great website. I discovered you after the RWA conference in Dallas two years ago. I'm a regular visitor and we love when you visit the Romance Bandits. (Pssst, I hear a rumor Marisa may be getting ready to launch a country singing career :-)

I have several friends that know everything about me and my fellow Banditas...well, I'm letting them in on things as we go...the brilliance of it all at once might be too much :-)

Thanks for the warm welcome Susan and Elizabeth.

We love to interview authors - and we really try not to make them sweat. There is not greater job than to sit down and talk to an author. The women we've met over the past year are amazing. They're smart, they're funny and they can tell a great story whether they're writing it, or speaking to the camera.

    Waving to Anna!!!

Joan - Marisa a country western singer?!!!! I thought it was legend that neither one of us can carry a tune? Seriously, it's a joke in our households when we belt out a tune. Both Marisa and I were dancers, we went to Performing Arts High School, and then I went to the Juillard School and Marisa went on to dance professionally for many years - - but we could never, never, never sang. Our body was our instrument.

*Waving Madly!* Hi Maria and Marisa! Another Romance Bandit popping over to say hi and Wooo-hooo for you and RNTV! As Buffie so aptly put it, RNTV is in 'da HOUSE. Grins.

Love the new logo and can't wait to see the redesign. You two are so fun to "hang out" with both in person and virtually and RNTV is one of my must visits virtually (ha, ha) every day. I don't always comment, but I always check it out.

*Waving again!* to all the RWQers. Some of you I've met at National *fan girl moment!* or at Washington Romance Writers' famous Retreat. Great blog and coup for you in getting the lovely ladies from RNTV over here.

Marisa, great lyrics today BTW. Snork.

As to BFFs and Secret Keepers (love that) I have several, but my RHH - Really hot husband - and my Sis are the two who know the most, care the most, share the most and all that. I was very close with my Mama too, as someone else mentioned, and still would be, I'm sure if she were with us today. :> While my Sis an I aren't twins, we share TONS in common and feel like we are sometimes. Ha!

    Thanks for being here today!

Oh, I SOOOOO envy people who can dance. I'm look a lump of wood with two left feet made of lead. Hmm, does that count as a mixed metaphor. I really wanted to be a ballet dancer when I was a young un and I think the lure's still there. How wonderful that both of you brought MY dream to life ;-)

The Banditas are in the house! Woot woot! So glad you popped over.

Now, Maria, don't tell everyone that I can't sing. This is an on line community and they can't hear me. So I like to live the illusion that I'm the next Carmen MacRae - just let me have my dreams.

For those of you who are wondering what The Banditas are talking about, it's the country western song I wrote in my 20's and posted on their site today. I'm now a published song writer, go figure.

I loved your post on the new hotties. I'm not sure if Kevin McKidd was in Trainspotting, I didn't see that movie. Too depressing. But I discovered Kevin in HBO's Rome and in the now defunct TV series Journeyman. Oohh. He definitely tickled my toes.

BTW, I just saw West Side Story the other night and yeah, drool worthy for sure.

Hi Elizabeth, you, Lori, Elizabeth L, Stella and Susan are authors Maria and I would love to do a sit down interview with. So we all have to manage to be in the same city at the same time in 2008. Yes?
    Oh, maybe Washington D.C.

I envy that physical ability as much as I envy your getting to hang out with all my favorite authors!

Oh, also. Just wanted to say you've got a great team of reviewers too (PJ, Buffie, Gannon and Andrea). It was so much fun meeting them in Atlanta last weekend!

Hi Christine! Hi Joan! So glad you came by.

You know the one thing I didn't mention is the very significant way in which Marisa and I are different - She is soooo nice and I'm definitely the evil twin... it makes for a great pair. I keep trying to get her to come over to my evil ways, but she won't have any of it.

And Joan - we do have some the best reviewers around. I love them all, and they are readers that love romance - you can't ask for a better fit.

Marisa and I are going to the NJ RWA conference next weekend, and we'll be interviewing several authors there. For us it will be a total fan girl moment. We love when we get up close and personal to the authors...it's really exciting for us.

Oooh, interviews with the RWQs in DC? I have a venue for you...heehee. (I live in DC)

Its so cool that you were both dancers. Like Anna, I so envy that. Now our Bandita Trish is a Boogie Nights kind of gal. Anna claims to have lead feet. I fall somewhere in the middle. Remember the scene in Dirty Dancing at the beginning party where Baby's just getting into the rhythm and the music stops? She's all out of kilter and awkward looking. That would be me. Snork. Wish I could say I went on to dance as well as she does, but I seem to be stuck in that music-stops-I'm-still-moving moment.

I can do a heck of a karate kata though...

Jeanne - the operative word here is WERE. Yes we were both dancers and some days when I wake up in the morning I'd kill to have that body again. But 8 - 10 hours a day in a dance studio is no longer my idea of a good time. However, with a little coaxing I can be persuaded to do a two step every now and again.

Christine - so good to see you here - and I'm so glad you like the interviews. It is great good fun to see the women behind the pages.

Hey Ladies! (another Bandita waving madly as she dashes from the writing cave to the bar and back. Anna Campbell has been hogging the cabana boys in the lair again--can't get service worth a darn!)

I have never been to this site and now I'm wondering WHY! This is GREAT! And y'all know we're fans of RNTV. Love the work you do over there.

And oh, speaking of dancing--I'd kill for a dancer's body again, and I didn't even mind being constantly sore--I didn't wake up a day without sore muscles--but in a way I got used to it and it was a good kind of sore you know? But I wasn't very good. Not big stage kind of good, and I don't like being bad at stuff. It's my besetting sin--not wanting to do anything I can't do really well. Makes writing as an unpub a real pita actually.

Sites like yours and the cool network of people you cultivate keep us all going through those times we want to quit. Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for that....and it's neat to learn a bit about the two of you. I knew you were twins, but didn't know anything more.
