    Will this winter never end?

According to the calendar, it's spring. Man, you wouldn't know it by the weather around here. Okay, we did have a partial week where the temps actually rose to 70 degrees, but it was a short-lived little tease and now it's blustery, cold and wet again.

My plum trees and crocus are in bloom, though. And my tulips are up, if not yet open. I heard on the news last night that the tulips fields up in the Skagit , which are a huge tourist draw, are way behind schedule and not yet in bloom like they usually are this time of year. The merchants up there depending on the busloads of people who come to see the flowers must be grinding their teeth to nubs.

One bright spot in my endless winter is my new cover for Bending The Rules. I may have shown this to you all already, and if so, I apologize. But it bears repeating--at least to me. Now, generally I prefer faceless covers because the models never look like the hero or heroine I envisioned when I wrote the book.

But then I got this one. The guy on Rules actually looks like Jase de Sanges. He did even more so in the first version they sent me because my Jase has a prominent nose and so does the model. That 's harder to tell in this version as Art made the cover couple a little larger which hides a greater portion of his face behind my name strip. But he's still the closest I have ever been to art that represents the vision in my head.

Which, okay, has nada to do with the weather. Still, it's my little ray of sunshine. What's the weather like in your neighborhood? Anyone have sun? Heat? Palm trees, maybe?

    Inquiring minds wanna know.

    hello, from los angeles!

    Sun - check
    palm trees - check
nippy wind - check =( (which is making the palm trees sway and dissipates the heat from the sun)

While it looks gorgeous outside, the wind is making it a brisk 55 degrees. Cold! for los angeles. in april.

I just checked out weather.com and it says it'll be warming up over the weekend. mid 80s! yay.

    Hey Susan!

The blossoms on that tree look pretty good to me!

Really love the cover for Bending the Rules, it's very appealing.

Weather here on Kauai in the 70s--all the time, really. Sunny but with rain showers. Pretty.

Watched the Mariner game from Seattle today and although I don't think it was very warm, everything looked great.

Wow! I think I've never seen such a beautiful tree of violet flowers--my favorite color. And you have crocuses too!

Lucky you, all of you who live in an area with such lovely blooms. Though our last snow was sometime last week, we still haven't had any new greenery. I hope we get some soon.

There used to be a time when, occasionally at least, I'd have crocuses or snowdrops out in our garden by my birthday in early March. But not for the last 10 years and more. What has happened to our weather? At least we had a fairly sunny if cool Easter.

I'm with you, Susie, this winter has seemed long. I live in the same weather neighborhood as you and it snowed up in Stevens Pass last night (I saw it on the WA DOT camera on my Iphone). I'm a born-in-the-South girl, and it's 80 degrees in Georgia, so I'm ready for a little more warmth.
Speaking of warmth, that cover looks like it could generate a little heat! Love the cover; can't wait to read the book!

And Stella, hon, you sound a little homesick. Are you working too hard in Hawaii? Maybe you need a cold drink with one of those little umbrella thingies sticking out of the floaty piece of pineapple on top.
    Thanks for the fun,
    Lynne Thomas

    Definitely no palm trees.

Just when I think winter has let go.... it hits us again. I woke up Sunday morning and the ground was all white. Sunday was the every changing day of weather. It would be sunny then cloudy then snow or hail then sunny then cloudy then snow or hail then sunny.... You get the picture. ;)

However, I hold out hope that winter will end eventually and spring/summer will actually arrive. The forecast for the next week, here in Nova Scotia, has a lot of sunshine. Here's to that holding true.

    Sun Yep!
    Heat Yep!
    Palm Trees Definitely!

Unlike Stella who is in rainy Kauai, I live in sunny, warm Oahu. Today was sunny with gutsy tradewinds. Not sure about the temp since I've been inside most of the day, but it was beautiful this morning. Off work tomorrow so looking for great weather.

Going to have to take a side trip to the book store & see if I can find Rules. Looks good!!

Erin, 55 is sounding pretty good to me. Plus you have palm trees! I LOVE palm trees, but they are far and few between up here in the Pacific NW. *g*

Stella, while you are in warm Kauai, it was 36 degrees this morning. 36 Degrees in mid April! That's just wrong, wrong, wrong. But I wrote this blog Monday afternoon when it was raining cats and dogs and the sun did come out this afternoon, which was such a nice break. And it's supposed to get nicer as the week goes on. YAY!

Ranurgis, this late blooming isn't typical of Seattle, thank goodness. At least I hope it's not about to become the new normal.

Lynne, I saw that too--and snowing up on Snoqualmie pass as well. Sheesh. But at least we should have plenty of water this summer without a huge rate hike. Because have you noticed the water bills this year? They're Jai-normous!

Lori of Canada, there was snow in some of the outlying areas around here, too. But it looks like you've got a similiar forecast to ours. Here's hoping things improve. I think we're all ready for some warmer, kinder weather.

Kathy, I'm suffering from some serious sun/palm tree envy. WANT me some of that! RE: Rules, it won't actually be out until June 30th. I just had ot show off my new cover, because I'm soooo happy with the cover model. :)

Hi, Susan. Love the cover! The tree is very pretty too :) We have a sunny weather here but it’s windy too. And, temperatures in the morning are around 0°C and in the afternoon around 20°C, so we take our clothes layer by layer from the morning till the afternoon and then again we put it all back by the evening.

Weather? Ha! I live in the Cleveland area of Ohio. Rain, wind, rain, rain, rain. HOWEVER!It's supposed to be in the high 60's this weekend AND sunny! Hallelujah!

Have a great tax day! ...said with all the snark accountants are cursed with on this day ;-)

My weather's the same as your's, Susan. It's rained for the past 2 days and is darned chilly out for it being the middle of April.

It is nice to see the Forsythia, magnolias, daffy dills and other beautiful early spring things in bloom. Sort of a promise of things to come by Mother Nature.

The geese and deer keep eating all the signs of spring around here. LOL. All around my pond, flowers bloom, then become a snack.
    But I love it anyway.
Right now we're drowning though. Rain, rain, rain.

Susan, the book looks soooo yummy!!! I can't wait!

Lori, sounds like the geese and deer are craving spring, too. Too bad they don't have the Quills to keep them sane, huh. Nothin' like a good book!

Host, so your 0 C is our 32 F, right? (right at freezing?) And how do you make the degree symbol? I couldn't find anything like it on my keyboard.

Deb, I worked for an accountant through one tax season. And I remember much celebrating the night of the 15th when everything was finally done. (at least for the majority, non-extension people)

Margaret, I bet you're ready for some dry sunny weather too then, huh?

Lori, I knew deer were big plant eaters, but I didn't realize geese were too. You got the double whammy!

I'm like Lori, the deer keep trying to eat the new buds, but the forsythia and spring bulbs are starting to come out. The birds are starting to swarm our feeders, I've seen goldfinchs and red-headed woodpeckers(I'm hoping and waiting for the hummingbirds), we've had a few freeze warnings so we had to go cover a few plants.......can't wait till the warm weather!

Hey Susan. Central California - hot, then cold, then hot, then dry, then snow and a little rain. It just can't make up its mind!!

Sure you can't up the release date for Breaking the Rules?? Just a little... I'm feeling a bit impatient here...

Very breeezy, cloudy, sunshinny and cooold.
Have a few fan palms swaying in the breeze. Most of our bulbs have bloomed and gone...iris are starting to pop out. Plum tree has bloomed and setting a few fruit. The avocado trees are blooming and hopefully setting fruit. I'm looking forward to some dip later on.

    G'Day Susan,

Enjoying a lovely Autumn here on the Mid North Coast (NSW, Australia).

Cool nights, beautiful warm sunny days. My eldest son says the water is still very warm - he bodyboards.

We did have some wild weather late March due to storms up the coast but it made for great surf!

We have native palms in this coastal area where I live. All the beautiful lorikeets and kookaburras are squawking and laughing very early in the morning and it's a lovely alarm clock.

I love the cover. Hopefully we get the same here in oz. The powers that be changed the cover of Jayne's Running Hot and I was disappointed to say the least!

wstridgerunner, it's too early here for hummingbirds yet, but I saw a new-to-me-bird a week or so ago. I'm not sure what it was, it was little and had a brownish body but a black and white head and bib. It was in my snowball bush outside my living room window. I hope to see it when the soulmate is home because he's much better at identifying them than I am.

Lou that sounds sorta like Seattle weather (except no hot, unfortunately). And bless you for your impatience. *g*

Louis, I've never seen an avocado tree, but how totally cool to have one in your own back yard. I can't even imagine getting to go out and just pick one off a tree.

Catherine, I was in the Anaheim area earlier in the month and it is pretty there. Love, love, love the palm trees.

Tina, now THAT sounds exotic. And, ooh, summertime. Although I know you all have had drought problems for quite awhile. At least that's been true where my friend Steph Laurens lives, in the wine country north of Melbourne, I think it is. Lotsa fires up there this year. And you didn't get possibly the BEST HERO COVER EVER on Jayne's Running Hot? That's just plain wrong.

Judy, that's the weather here, too. Too cold for even long sleeves without a jacket. But I think it's actually supposed to get a little better. Oh, I do hope so.

Elizabeth. Yes, indeed. Nuf said. *G*

I love the cover! The mischievious look on her face is great.

Here in central Kentucky, it is very very lush and a visual feast for the eyes. Think vivid spring green on the grass and the new leaves in the trees and brilliant purples and pinks and whites on the flowering trees. Set that against the stormy purple of the sky. There's a reason why I think springtime in Kentucky is one of the most beautiful things in the world. It would be nice, however, if it would warm up, and no, I don't consider the 50's warm. And, if the constant wind and rain would stop and we could get some sunshine for more than a 1/2 day at a time, that would be nice, too.

It has been a long winter, hasn't it? But the cover for BENDING THE RULES certainly brightens things up. Love it!

I'm with you for the most part, though, when it comes to covers. I don't like to see the full faces of the characters because they never match my inner vision. But I gotta say, this one works.

Love that cover with just a hint of a manly man! Definitely appears to be someone who could take the chill off any cold day. Here in Cobb in northern California, it's well into the seventies today, though it was snowing here two days ago. My poor little flowers don't know whether to bloom or hide their heads, and the goldfish in the pond that were swimming beneath six inches of ice are now at the top begging for food. I'm hoping we've seen the last gasp of winter, but if not, cold weather is the best time to curl up by the fire with a good book!

Tina, I've never been to Kentucky in the spring, but I bet it is beautiful. I was going to say I'd been in the summer, but that was Tennessee I was thinking of, which is also very pretty--especially those blue ridge mountains! But that's probably like someone comparing Washington and Oregon. Both are great places, but only one is home. :/

Jayne, yep, I'm a lovin' this guy. Okay, the cover's no Running Hot, which I think has got to be one of the best EVER. But it has the satisfaction factor in spades for getting the hero right. :)

Or napping, Kate. I find myself napping more in cold weather. The sun actually came out today and it's supposed to be nice for the weekend.

    Here's hoping.
