    The Healing Spirit

    Photobucket

To fill in for Stella today, I'm going to share information about a Giant Giveaway that not only puts you in the running for some great prize packages, but will also make you feel really good about contributing to a worthy cause.

Helping others always makes ME feel great. At the times when I feel most blessed, like during the holidays with family all around me, I feel the need to do more for my community.

Opening your heart to those in need will put you
in the running for a gigantic prize package!

Like most of us, I have my favorite causes, and children are always at the top of the list. Local to me is the "One Way Farm," a wonderful, caring home for abused and abandoned children. http://www.onewayfarm.org/

The holidays are fast approaching, so I hope you'll join me in giving to the "One Way Farm."
To thank you, for every dollar donated you'll be entered in a special drawing to win an array of prizes.

One entry per $ dollar donated.
Example: A $5 dollar donation to the "One Way Farm" entitles you to 5 chances to win. Identical slips of paper will be used to write the name of the person donating, one slip per $ donated. All of the slips will be folded, and put into a large container.

Names will be drawn at 3:00 pm on December 20th.

    * With each donation, please be sure to include:
Your name, address, and if possible, your email address. I will not add your name to any lists, but in case I need to contact you, email is the easiest way for me to do that.

Checks and money orders should be made out to "One Way Farm."
Cash is accepted up to $5.

    Mail to:

    Lori Foster
    P.O. Box 854
    Ross OH 45061

I will be unable to provide tax receipts, but you may receive one from the "One Way Farm."

Except for the $1 minimum, it doesn't matter how much or how little you donate: Everyone who donates has a chance for his or her name to be drawn to win.

    Top Winner
    Prizes include:
    * Registration for the 2010 Readers and Authors Get Together
    * 2 nights stay at the Get Together hotel, for the weekend of the Get Together
    * An ARC of Back in Black, as soon as I get one (It will be before the release of the book, but the time often varies)
    * Plus the entire SBC fighter series, autographed by me, including:
single titles: Causing Havoc, Simon Says, Hard to Handle, My Man Michael.
    * A T-shirt and a tote bag

    2nd Winner
    * Autographed copies of the L.L. Foster series, including:
    Servant: The Awakening
    Servant: The Acceptance
    Servant: The Kindred
Out of the Light, Into the Shadows
    * A T-shirt and a tote bag

    3rd Winner
    * Autographed copies of related Winston family stories, including:
    The Winston Brothers (anthology)
    Wild (single title, mass market)
Say No To Joe? (single title, hardcover)
Double the Pleasure (anthology, mass market)
    Double the Heat (anthology, trade)

Over the years, certain organizations have touched my heart in amazing ways. I've collected a list of my favorite places to donate.

    They include:

    Hospice
    AAF (Animal Adoption Foundation)
Hamilton County YWCA Battered Women's Shelter
    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
    Toys for Tots
    One Way Farm

What about you? Do you have a favorite place where you like to donate?

Do you or your family have a tradition of helping out at your church or community center during the holidays?

Over the holidays, do you visit the trees set up in the malls to choose the name of a needy child to gift?

I believe that all of us, in one way or another, give according to our ability to do so. Sometimes, all you can give is a friendly hug - but believe me, for those in need, it means so very much.

I hope this giveaway will make it easier for some to donate, and in the process, I hope that donating makes YOU feel as wonderful as it makes me feel.

(To see his information on my site, visit www.lorifoster.com/fun/contest.php - please feel free to share the giveaway with friends! I'll appreciate it if you help spread the word.)

Bless all of you, and Good Luck in the giveaway!

Thank you for jumping in, Lori. I'm just back from Canada and hope to write a bit about Vancouver and Victoria in the next few weeks.

Your donation idea is great and it'll be a pleasure to contribute.

My big bad sad at the moment is, of course, animals again. And there is a HS ad on TV at the moment that shoes poor, dear creatures who should not have to suffer. The finaly animal is a horribly imaciated Pit Bull and the song finishes, "..makes me feel I'm untouchable." I have to turn the thing off every time it comes on. I want to run out and start looking for abuses animals--the dear children, well, what you're doing is a big help and will assist all of us to do something special this year.

    Love, Stella

Good heavens--I know I've been away from the computer for a few days but I didn't think I'd completely forgotten how to type. Sorry about that, folks!

Welcome back, Stella. I bet Canada was lovely this time of year! I haven't been in forever, but I remember it still. :-)

Yes, animals are always on my donation list, specifically the AAF, which is local to me. So many of us see the problems as too insurmountable to fix. But if we concentrate on a local level, if we help within our own community, then we see the progress being made. And every little bit - regardless of how small - always helps.

It seems the minute the leaves start changing color, I start thinking about everyone who, for reasons out of their control, aren't as happy and cared for as I am.
It hits me hard again in the spring. The big changes in Mother Nature just do something to me.

    Hugs,

    Lori

For us it's long been Spirit Wild, the local wild animal rescue facility, but sadly it closed its doors this September when no one could be found to take the place of the wonderful woman who has run it for so many years.

Our other "charity" is very personal--our son's best friend was badly brain injured almost eight years ago when he was hit by a car. I still handle the website for Ross, who continues to show slow but steady improvement so many years later. Regular updates are at www.rossdillon.com/update

Giving what we can to those in need offers such a wonderful gift in return--and it's even more important now, with the economy still suffering. And you're so right--every little bit helps.

Tony, thank you! But I'm sort of enlisting everyone else to help too. LOL Hope this is a great fundraiser! So far so good. I plan to post periotic updates on the amount. :-)

Kate, how sad for your son's friend. Modern medicine never ceases to amaze me with what they can do - and what they can't.
My thoughts are with all of you.
    Hugs,

    Lori

You're one of the most generous people I know, Lori, and I never cease to be amazed at your willingness to jump right in and lend a hand! And speaking of generous, what an excellent prize! Personally, I think the ARC would be worthwhile for any reader, but the get together weekend too? Wow!

It is the time of year when we start thinking of those less fortunate. We donate the turkeys and hams Hub gets at work together with sacks of groceries to our local food bank to provide holiday meals for those in need in our community. We donate to our hospital's Hospice program, which puts a star on the tree in their lobby. One year we adopted a family through our local "People In Need" for Christmas, buying gifts for them. We received a call from the children VERY early on Christmas morning to thank us - the father then got on the line and thanked us, saying that we provided the majority of the gifts his children opened year. I still tear up thinking about that call. It put the day into perspective for all of us.

Kudos to you! My contribution is forthcoming!

Lori I always knew you had a very giving spirit! ;) your special places to give are very worth it and I am sure they appreciate all that you do, because it is alot!
your prize package this time around is WOW and anyone would be thrilled to win it! however the donation is the thing not the prize! :-) I would have donated without the prize! (but it is fabulous)
my favorite charities are toys for tots, and the salvation army program at christmas, I also give to the postal food drive every time around providing I remember to get it out there before the mailman comes! its so easy just to runa bag of goodies to the end of your drive! ;) and I live in elkhart county, which has been on the news alot lately because of the unemployment explosion in the last year, the food banks are over loaded but people are still giving and that makes me feel great! :-) to see the community still coming together!

I also give to the local shelter which is very overwhelmed with animals right now because the job loss means people are leaving their poor animals just letting them out! soo the shelter is doing an amazing job trying to keep up!

kate I feel for your sons friend and am going to check out the web site this week!

Very classy, inspiring and generous, Lori. I'll pass the word.

I haven't even thought about the holidays yet. Does this mean summer's over???????

Kris, thanks! Isn't Toys for Tots fabulous? It's one of those organizations you can really get behind, and feel really good about it.

The idea of animals being left homeless thanks to this economy just sickens me. It's so, so sad. Heartbreaking. I look at the animals that we care for, and I see so emotion and personality in their little faces. They're individuals, with their own fears and worries and their own form of happiness.
Thank you for being a giver! Bless you.
