I'm a HUGE movie buff and go to the theater at least once a week, but often twice.
My favorites recently have been Blindside, with Sandra Bullock. It was just plain wonderful!
Sherlock Holmes, which had amazing characterization. Robert Downy Jr is an incredible actor.
And I rewatched (on DVD) Perfect Getaway with my oldest son, because I enjoyed it so much.
I have some older movies I enjoy rewatching, but they have nothing to do with the time of the year. LOL. I just enjoy them.
Great photo to share!
Here in Ohio, we're supposed to hit 40, and that means the snow will melt. Yay!

Carla,
Thanks for blogging with “us” your fans again. Glad you have a great time in Tenn. With your family. Seems to be a “freeze” on the East Coast. I can’t wait till spring as well. I keep telling myself to go and take the trip to see my brother and mother in Florida as well. But as you already know, they too have been having this freeze. Ugh, can’t wait for it to be over. Glad you made it back safely with out not weather issues with you plane.
Now, to your blogging questions: I love to watch movies as well. We did go see “Precious”, it was a great movie, but shocking for those who’s not in touch with the real world. We also went to watch “Avatar” (got to go back and re-watch it) I purchased Gone with the Wind, I want to sit and watch it the whole way through with no interruptions, it’s been a while since I seen it. I am waiting on the new “Dear John” to come out, can’t wait to see this one.
Great talking to ya again, not like I don’t everyday, but its nice when you are on here and we get more in-sight on what’s going on with your writing. Since your Re-Issue of On Fire is coming out, I do have your back issue, but haven’t read it yet, so it is on my TBR pile as well, can’t wait to read this one as well. :)
Talk to you soon; have a great day Blogging… I will check back to see if I can get anymore “scoop”. :) LOL
Your fan always,

Hi Carla,
I love a good story, so I also love movies. The last one I saw in a theater was Amelia, so I am a little behind. I want to see Blindside because it's a true story and because it's amazing what living in the South has done for Sandra Bullock's ability to mimic a Southern accent.
Usually for the holidays we watch A Christmas Story (you'll shoot your eye out!) and Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas on DVD.
Glad you are safe and warm,

Lori, we plan to see Sherlock Holmes this week. I like to get movie recommendations from friends. I haven't seen Blindside yet.
Vanetta, I saw Gone with the Wind in Nashville and almost bought it, but I decided to wait until I got home. Time to get to our local Borders!
Haven't seen Amelia, Lynne -- or Jug Band Christmas. I'm going to have to write down all these movies!
I have to admit, I love a happy ending. If a movie has a miserable ending -- I prefer to know in advance. ;-) - susan andersen said...

Unlike Lori, I don't get to the movies very often. I saw 3 in '09, which for me is wildly extravagant. :) I saw My Sister's Keeper, Julie and Julia, and The Blind Side. I really liked all three, but particularly loved The Blind Side. I think Sandra Bullock is a much better actor than her usual movies suggest, so it was fun to see her in something that gave her the chance to really shine.

Hi Carla - I am much more into my happy reading. I did give my dtr $$ to see New Moon twice. My husband & I do occasionally go to the movie theater. Our local one has three cinemas & it's been there forever. If I watch movies at home, it is something w/ action in it that my husband likes. He's pretty happy w/TNT, but really I just like to sit w/ him. I am much happier reading. My husband can't stand the stuff I like. Sometimes I watch the surgeries, etc. on the medical channel. It would be an adventure to visit one of those cool theaters & see a movie in 3-D. Have a great day!! I'm having the same weather Lori is having. It's sunny & the snow is melting for now. The word I have to put in to get this on here is sledd.

Reading your post made me shiver! We've had storms, but not the bitter cold that the rest of the country is getting--last night the wind howled and the rain pelted the house all night long. Sounded like a freight train rolling up the hill!
We rarely go to movies--it's over an hour to the theater from here, but I am dying to see Avatar! That's one I refuse to wait and see on DVD... - Carla Neggers said...

Hm, Susan, I'm trying to think of how many movies I saw in the theater in '09. Not many...I saw Star Trek three times, though. ;-)
Surgeries on TV, Rebecca. LOL!
Avatar's worth seeing on the big screen, Kate, and in 3-D if you can swing it. We'd have to drive a long way here in Vermont, so we snapped up the chance to see it in Nashville. - Mary said...

Wow, sounds cold. We've had temps of 60F all week. It's been really nice here. We hardly ever get snow here in vegas. I've seen a whole buch of the Elvis movies, and not because I wanted to watch them but because my grnadma and mother loved him so much they used to watch them all the time when I was little.
I have seen Avatar, Star Trek, and the new terminator movie. I thought Avatar was alright and Star Trek was awesome and the Terminator movie was really good. Well it was really good until they had that Arnold schwarzanaggar (sp) look alike towards the end of the movie. lol - Kathy Martin said...

I don't go to very many movies but I did see Avatar (though not in 3-D) and Sherlock Holmes during my Christmas Break from school. I bought the Star Trek DVD but haven't watched it yet. I think the only other movie I went to in 2009 was New Moon.
All in all, I'd rather read and buy the movie in DVD to watch later. Avatar, however, might lose something in a smaller screen. It was really visually stunning. - Sue G said...

Here's how often I go to the theater...last movie I saw ( in a theater) "The Sixth Sense". I just don't like theaters anymore. People are rude, cell phones ringing and conversations be had on them, much talking, bringing young children (I love kids, but they do not belong at the movies unless it's a children's movie. All in all I'd rather watch DVDs and pause for the bathroom, food, drink breaks when necessary. I do miss the drama of a big screen and I give in now and then (the 6th sense was a then) :0)Some movies just beg to be seen on the big screen.
Favorites at Christmas... have to watch White Christmas, A Christmas Carol (the version with Reginald Owen and all the Lockharts), Elf (smiling is my favorite), and The Santa Clause.
Happy New Year to all,

Okay, I hate to admit it but Frank and I only see movies in hotel rooms where you can click on "still in theaters" films on the big screen t.v. in the room. Avatar obviously won't work because we won't have the glasses. But I'm realy looking forward to Sherlock Holmes!

Hi Carla,
We got the movies out during College break and did some major movie watching. Twlight, Star Trek, Julie and Julia, My Sister's Keeper and every chick movie we own. I am ready to hit the theaters this weekend. Lovely Bones looks like a good one. I hope so, I read the book and it ssure was good. - Carla Neggers said...

Star Trek was definitely my favorite movie of 2009. Avatar was something to see in 3-D -- my husband and son saw it on the regular screen and said there was a huge difference.
The IMAX theater was huge but, amazingly, there were no distractions -- no cell phones, no rude people, no people getting up and down. Either that or the 3-D experience kept us from noticing!
Favorite versions of A Christmas Carol could make for a whole blog. :-) - Kathleen O said...

There were so many movies out that I wanted to see over the holidays and the least of these was Avitar, but funny enough it was the only one I saw. And have to admit I enjoyed it.
But I am a big Elvis fan and loved that day on TCM that they showed a lot of his movies and I PVR'd the one I didn't have time to watch or wern't in my collection.
Got to so somthing to warm me up on these cold, cold days. - said...

Carla, I'm sorry to say that I hadn't read any of your books until you started posting here. I picked up "Cold Pursuit" and "Cold River" and am enjoying them tremendously. In fact, I'm having a difficult time putting them down so that I can get anything done. I'm looking forward to "Cold Dawn" and am planning a trip to Borders to pick up some of your back list.
As for movies, I usually wait until they are out on DVD, but definitely want to go see Avatar on the "big" screen. - said...

I'm "sorry" to say it was warm somewhere in the country, Hawaii! It's one of the reasons I love living here!
Hmmm, movies...Well, I work in a movie Theatre in Honolulu so I guess I see as many movies as I want. I must admit I don't watch them all because some just don't appeal to me. But I watch all the ones that do appeal.
I have seen all the movies mentioned so far excpet New Moon. It was so crazy working during the whole time, that I never wanted to see it.
Favorite holiday movies that I watch every year are It's A Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Stree with Charlie Ruggles, Maureen O'Hara, and Natalie Wood, and at least 1 version of A Christmas Carol.
Sending warm sunny thoughts to all of you all over the cold, snowy mainland.
Aloha,

Oh! Oh! I saw A Miracle on 34th Street, too! (the original) I've seen bits and pieces of it throughout the years but had never seen in its entirety, and a friend lent it to me. When my s-i-l heard that she lent me A Christmas Story, which I found so not my cup of tea and Polar Express, which I loved.
I also really liked Star Trek, and I've never been a Trekkie. - said...

Hi Carla,
My husband and I are movie buffs and have recently seen Avatar twice (I think my hubby wants to see it the third time). We also saw Daybreakers which is both scary and fun! - Alissa said...

Hi Carla,
I Was in Miami this past week for work and it was COLD (only got up into the 40's one day)! I convinced myself to rent the $$$ hotel room movie to try to cheer me up since I couldn't go to the beach and watched The Proposal...I laughed out loud many times and really enjoyed it! I also love the new Star Trek...I hear they are making a sequel and I can't wait. - Stella said...

Car;a: I'm still seeing COLD RIVER here. It's such fun when a book has "legs."
Cheers, Stella
