JAYNE IS FIRED UP ABOUT 2010

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Can't believe we just rolled into 2010 and still no flying cars. What's up with that? There were supposed to be flying cars by now. Then, again, maybe it's just as well. There are enough traffic problems as it is, what with cell phones and stuff.

This new year is particularly exciting for me because the first book in my Dreamlight Trilogy, FIRED UP, just went on sale. I'm having a blast writing these books. I hope you enjoy them. Here's a little taste of FIRED UP:

    ***************************************************
“I’m probably going to regret asking this, but what is The Talk?” Jack asked.

“That’s when I explain about my commitment issues,” Chloe said. “I make it clear that any relationship I enter into is likely to be short-term and that there are no strings attached. I make sure that the other person knows that he is free to dump me on a moment’s notice without feeling any guilt.” She frowned a little. “But for some reason I’m usually the one who ends up doing the dumping.”

“You’re a real romantic, aren’t you?” he said flatly.

“I can’t afford to be a romantic, Mr. Winters. Not with my talent.”

He shot her a quick, searching look. “What does your talent have to do with it?”

“It’s hard to explain,” she said. She leaned her head against the back of the seat, folded her arms and closed her eyes. “It doesn’t matter now, anyway.”

    “Why not?”

“The serial monogamy thing got old. I moved into a new phase about a year ago. I admit that I toyed with the idea of going back to serial monogamy for a time with Fletcher but I finally realized it just wouldn’t work.”

“I really know I’m going to regret asking the next question, but I can’t help myself," Jack said. "What comes after serial monogamy?”

    “Celibacy.”

    He felt blindsided again. “Celibacy?”

“There’s a kind of freedom in the celibate lifestyle," Chloe explained.

    “Yeah? I hadn’t heard that.”

Jayne, I commented on the Holiday post, but I'll do it here too, in case you didn't see it.

Fired up...loved it. I got the book on the 29th, read it the next day and now cannot wait for the next one. The teaser was fabulous!.

Enjoyed my Fallon fix. I think I am going to love Isabel, she already has a handle on Fallon.

Best to you in the New Year!

SUE G: thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed FIRED UP. And glad you liked Isabella as she'll be the heroine of the next JAK novel.

LOUIS: I really appreciate the positive feedback on the Dark Side of Arcane. Thanks and Happy New Year!

I got my copy of "Fired UP" on the 29th, too, but didn't start reading it until New Year's Eve. Thanks for providing a great escape for a few hours from the craziness around here-- Oldest son moved back home, husband and I sick with stomach virus, and washing machine broken!

2010 has not started off well, but I've thoroughly enjoyed your book, and am looking forward to the next installment (just in time for my birthday!)

    Happy New Year, y'all.

Jayne, I absolutely loved Fired Up! And when I ordered it online, I saw where Sweet Starfire was coming out as a reissue and bought that one as well. Read it last night and it was wonderful--a very early precursor to your Harmony books? And yes, I may already have it somewhere in my "JAK" collection, but didn't want to hunt through ALL THOSE BOOKS! Here's to a wonderful 2010, and maybe a flying car or two...

Oh my, Jayne, that sounds very, very delicious! I can't wait to read more!
Are the books tied together, so that I need to read all the Arcane stories in order? I have to admit that I fell hopelessly behind in 2009!
I wish I could be there for the writing workshops. You're always a fascinating speaker. :-)
    Here's to a stellar 2010!

Jayne, I really enjoyed Fired Up! I can tell my brain is getting older, though--I'm starting to think I need a flow chart or a cheat sheet for the Arcane and Dreamlight series! I have the utmost respect for your writing, and your ability to make everything follow and flow across time, pen name and genre.

Read it. Loved it. Can't wait for the next one. Hmmm, I guess that just about covers it.

Happy New Year, Jayne. Sorry about the flying cars, but did you ever guess that by 2010 you would be so loved by so many people for the sheer joy you bring to their lives? Now that's an achievement!

I was in Boston for New Year's and there was FIRED UP in the doorway to the Barnes & Noble at Copley Place -- awesome! Of course I bought a copy. I can't wait to read it.

ABIGAIL 2: Oh, my you are not having a great start to 2010. But look on the positive side. No way to go but up! And meanwhile, I'm so glad you enjoyed FIRED UP.

SUSAN: Yep, for some reason the word "celibate" does capture the imagination.

KATE: Thanks and I do hope you're finally starting to feel better.

LORI: Glad you liked the teaser. Yes, this is the first book of the Dreamlight Trilogy but with books 1 and 2 (BURNING LAMP) it doesn't matter which one you read first. The third, however, (MIDNIGHT CRYSTAL) whould definitely be read after the other two as it answers all the questions raised in the first two volumes. It won't be out until August, though.

JOAN: Trust me, you are not the only one who needs a flow chart! I admit I'm sort of winging it from book to book and hoping I don't screw up the plot lines too much.

LYNNE: Ah, that's sweet. I feel a lot better about the lack of flying cars now! Thanks and Happy New Year.

CARLA: Oh, good. Thanks for the report! Always reassuring to know that the books actually got into the stores back East.

I had the book on pre-order, to be shipped to my work. Bad planning. I was off between Christmas and New Years. I had to make a special trip in to work just to get my book fix, er, order.

Can't wait for The Burning Lamp to come out. I've already got that on pre-order too.

Thanks, Jayne. I'm still coughing and hacking, but do feel as if I've finally turned the corner and will most likely survive. For awhile there I had my doubts.

I saw Fired Up at Barnes and Noble today when I went there and snatched up a copy for myself. I just knew I was gonna love it as much as the others you've written. I read it in 2 hours! Everyone was out of the apartment and I was uninterrupted...It was great! I loved the characters, I'm gonna love this trilogy if all the books are as good as this one was. :)

K.L. Sorry about the logistical disaster but I really appreciate the fact that you drove all the way back to work to pick up the book! Thank you.

KATE: Glad to hear you're on the mend. Also very glad now that Frank and I were able to get the shots.

MARY: Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know that you loved FIRED UP and are looking forward to the next two volumes in the trilogy. Happy New Year!

    Hi Jayne,

I pre-ordered your book with another for my brother on Amazon.com. It was shipped and delivered last week, but due to major snow storms, I haven't been able to pick it up yet. On the good side, my Mom started reading Fired Up and can't put it down. Can't wait to get it! Thanks for another wonderful story.

Jayne, Your comment on the flying cars makes me think about 2001 A Space Odyssey and the sequel 2010. Hard to believe we thought it was soooooo far away and that daily life would be so different. In fact, it is sooo different; I sit here "talking" to one of my favorite authors and will, no doubt see a response soon. Not like snail mail or the impossibility of answering all your fan mail personally. Blogging has surely improved sharing of information, thoughts, & just stuff!

On the flying cars...JD Robb thinks we'll be driving/flying them in about 40 years :0)

As always, you wrote a story that grabbed everything legal about me. (Um, my mind *is* legal, isn't it?)

FIRED UP is a wonderful addition to Arcane Society. And congratulations on hitting #5 on the NYT hardcover list!!!
