    Reads for the new year.

I'd intended to write about New Year resolutions...but, really, has anyone ever stuck to one of those? Me, not so much, no matter how sincere my intentions going in. Not being fond of that I'm-such-a-failure feeling, I've long since given them up. So I decided to write about books instead. Because, hey, we're all big-time readers here, yes?

I got to read a lot in December. I won't bore you with the reasons for my sudden free time (HQN!) but depite not planning on it, it was nice to have time off during the holidays. I particularly enjoyed having guilt-free reading time. I'm on one of my usual genre-within-the-genre streaks--this one paranormal--so I read the entire Lynn Viehl Darkyn series before Christmas. Then my sweet baby boy bought me the newest Charlaine Harris "Grave" mystery and the 2nd and 3rd in the Devon Monk Magic series, which I read mostly over the long New Year weekend while snowed in at our cabin. I'm currently reading J.R. Ward's Covet. I can honestly recommend them all--but am particularly pumped over Monk's books. She's got a terrific voice and interesting plots and they're set in Portland, Oregon, which for me just makes them that much more fun.

I'm heading out to get Jayne and Kate's new January releases--after which I think I'll probably be ready to move on to a new genre. Maybe I'll look into historical romance.

Hmmm. I wonder if Suzanne Enoch, Sherry Thomas or Elizabeth Hoyt have anything new. I'll have to check that out.

So what about you? Have any hot recommendations for me for 2010?

Yes, I love getting book recommendations because I always find great new authors. So here's a good one..Pamela Palmer.
I recently read Passion Untamed and Obsession Untamed and they were great! I still have to read Desire Untamed but I have a feeling it will be just as good as the other two.

Thanks Mary. I'll look her up to see what genre within the genre she is.

Check out Karen Chance. She has a couple urban fantasy series going, and her characters are hilarious. Like Ms. Krentz, she can make me laugh out loud while reading.

Well, thanks for asking, Susan! *g* As a matter of fact I do have a new book coming out. A LADY'S GUIDE TO IMPROPER BEHAVIOR will be out on May 11th.

    Happy new year!

Good morning, Susan! Laughed when you said you had guilt-free time to read! Such a concept...but I read and enjoy just as much WITH the guilt! You will love FIRED UP! I think it's one of Jayne's best, but you won't be able to find DemonFire. It doesn't come out until Feb. 23--however, my newest Wolf Tales (9) hit the shelves December 29.

I just finished Robyn Carr's newest Virgin River book last night--Forbidden Falls. It's another wonderful addition to her series, which hooked me from the very first book. I've got two books from Yasmine Galenorn, a sometimes RWQ guest, on my TBR shelf--Bone Magic and the anthology Inked. Not sure which one I'll start today. Also have Christine Feehan's Street Game waiting for me. And a deadline. Wolf Tales 11 is due February 15, so even though I'll be reading, it'll be with a LOT of guilt!

I just finished Jayne Krentz's "Fired Up" and really enjoyed it-looking forward to the rest of the series.
Amazon is bringing 3 books from some of my favorite authors:
    Blood Cross by Faith Hunter
Inked by Karen Chance el al
Naked Dragon by Annette Blair-new series
    Kitty's House of Horrors.
Guess what I will be doing this weekend?

I have read all of the JR Ward books, and can safely say that if you like JR Ward you will adore Karen Chance as well.

On another note: may all your proposals sell in 2010 to other publishers.

KathyLynn, you are the first of three so far to recommend Karen Chance, so I'll definitely have to check her out!

Suzie, I have to wait until MAY??? Dang. Well, I guess I can always reread your backlist (Reforming a Rake-Yay!) for the umpteenth time to tide me over.

Whoops, Kate, sorry. Mixed em up. Glad you're finally starting to recover from that nasty flu. Made me start looking around for a place to get the N1H1 shot.

Diane P, thanks for the list. I think I'm going to start with Karen Chance as 3, count em, 3! of you recommend her.

Susan in AZ, I can't submit proposals elsewhere as I've got two books left on my contract with HQN. And in all honesty, overall they've been very good to me. Check in next week to see if I'm still saying that. *G*

If you are looking for a historical, many people (including Julia Quinn who has great rec.'s) recommended Tessa Dare. Goddess of the Hunt is the first in the trilogy. I just finished it, it was so good I ran out and got Surrender of a Siren. She also makes me laugh and writes a fast paced story.

Wow, some terrific reading, Susan! I have a whole stack of books that I hope to get to, so wish me luck. Something always seems to take up my reading time.
My New Year's Resolution is to get out and visit with my friends more. Made plans for tonight, in fact, and we're getting half a foot of snow and ice. LOL

    Hugs!

Janie, thanks--I'll put Tessa Dare on my list.

Lori--now that's a good resolution. And rats on the weather. Up until a week or so ago, we had really cold weather here, but it was dry and sunny so you could get out. But last winter we had a 3-4 week long snow and ice spell, and in a city like ours with all the hills and a lack of equipment because we rarely need it, it definitely bollocks everything up. We didn't, however, get down to 8 degrees. That's more eastern WA weather.
And I sure know that reading-going-out-the-window-first syndrome. 'S why it was so nice to have a little extra time.

I'm with Kate on Forbidden Falls and Fired Up. Now I'm about to start her newest Wolf Tales. I just finished the latest installment of the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian, and this one made me CRY it was so good (love me some vampires).

Don't ever feel guilty about taking a little time for yourself-nobody ever takes enough, and it's the one thing that really matters. My Mama used to tell me that you can't take care of anybody else if you don't take care of yourself. The older I get, the righter she gets.

    Happy new year, Susie,

Gator Person, thanks! is the Cruise/Mayer book new? I haven't heard of that one. I miss her written-by-herself books, but I've still enjoyed the other two collaborations with Mayor, so I'll check it out.

I am sitting with Fired Up on my nightstand, so glad to know everyone has enjoyed it! I'll be starting it next. Right now I'm reading Naked Dragon by Annette Blair (who's mysteries are great, too). For recommended reads: Cynthia Eden's Immortal Hunter, anything Ilona Andrews and Shelly Laurenston cracks me up whether she's writing as Shelly or as G.A. Aiken. *G* Best wishes for more guilt free reading. As long we get some good news on books from you soon! *G*

Brandy, thanx for the recs. Steph also recommended Ilona Andrews and I'm reading my first right now, but having a hard time getting into it. It may very well be my mood--that will affect how much I enjoy a book sometimes.
I've got two reissues coming out June and August and a new book, Burning UP, that I'm very excited about in Sept. Hope you enjoy!!
